I'm absolutely amazed, shocked, and happy.

After about 6 months of having to be on a wired connection due to a "computer repair" guy conveniently messing up my wireless connection, I now am back on a wireless connection. I had my laptop looked at back in the spring due to it being extremely slow for some reason. The guy put on some antivirus programs and whatnot, seemed to have regained some of the speed to it, but when I got it home, I couldn't connect to the internet with my wireless card. I was floored, and I called him up asking him what he had done. He muttered something, and had me try various things with the network settings, then told me that he couldn't fix it. I guess that's what you get when you get free service, as his was. He offered to help me at his booth at the flea market for no charge, but I had no idea he was going to screw things up so I couldn't work anymore. At that time, the internet was my communication tool, the only way I could reach people that I knew as I had no phone. When he screwed that up for me, I was stranded. So I had to search around and try to find a cable to plug into my laptop from the router so I could still get online. It was an expensive task to get a 50' cord because nothing was long enough to reach my laptop in my room from the room where the router was. At the new place, I had to buy more cords, another 30' of them plus extensions so I could plug them all in, I bought the cords at 5' lengths because I couldn't afford anything else. You should have seen it, 80' of cords snaking their way from the basement, through the kitchen and into the living room where I currently have my laptop. But now that I'm wireless again, I don't need to worry about that. The biggest hassle is the power adapter, which is absolutely necessary since my battery doesn't hold a charge for longer than half an hour. But I am happy now, the only reason I'd bought my laptop when my old desktop died was to get free wireless where I had been living back when I bought it, and I'd gone wireless ever since. It's constricting to be wired and not having the option to move around like I used to, and now I have the freedom to go anywhere in the house and be online. As long as there's a power outlet, I'm perfectly content anywhere. I can even go outside, there's a plug right where I'd be sitting, and I can now enjoy nature while online. But I wont be doing that until the spring when it's warmer, but it's definitely something to look forward to, and I can't wait until then. Fore sure, a wireless connection has its advantages, especially for laptops. And now we're trying to get our roommate set up on wireless for his desktop, which is proving to be problematic as he deleted his wireless card hardware and can't even get on with a wired connection. But we'll still try, and he's going to get the install cd at some point and see if he can get online. Getting online will make him happy as he can do what he needs to do, and I wont have to worry about him using my laptop when I'm not around. I'm looking forward to many days of being online with my wireless connection, technology is quite amazing, and I'm happy that it was created when it was.
