When opting for a job, we have to put into consideration of the working hours. There are many type of working hours that many company have adopted. A famous office hours that is from 8-4 or 9-5 job and there is shift rotation. Shift rotation widely use is a 12hrs shift and 8 hrs shift. For 12hrs shift, the working pattern will be 4 days on and 4 days off. The 8 hrs shift usually have only 2 days or 1 day off.
Depend on individual, some love working office hours, some like the 12 hrs shift and some like 8 hrs shift.
More most of my working life, I have been working on 12 hrs shift and if I had a special assignment, i will be assign to work on office hours. Personally I like the 12 hrs shift more compares to the office hours. The main reason is just because I can have a lot of off day. Imagine of 4 days off. A lot can be done I will have more than enough rest. If compares the 12 hrs and 8hrs work, the difference will be so fine that we just cannot differentiate it. Working 12 hrs shift ensure you are free of traffic jam. But working office hours, we are bound to stuck in traffic jams for hours. If we include the time we stuck at the traffic jams, the time we go out from house to work and reach home is just about an hour different.
So that is why I love 12 hrs shift work. How about you?

The 12 hours shift is really challenging for a normal individual like myself. I will prefer a 9 hours job. However, definitely it is troublesome when you want to get some job done like banking or anything involves out of the office. I also heard that people that tends to work night shift has problem with health? Is it true? They look older?

I like a normal working hours job. I like to sleep in nights and be awake at days.
I would be open to doing mid-day shifts but I draw the line at graveyard shifts 'coz I want to take care of my health and changing body clock kills you social life and physical health...

I also like to sleep at night and awake on days. I love my off day. About social life and physical health, I might disagree with you. I had 4 days off and I can have as much fun socializing. I have been working shift for 10 years and I'm still healthy and more healthier compare to those working normal hours. It just depends on how you take care of your health.
But of course when I'm getting older and more to the other end of my age, I would love to work normal working hours.

Hi,
Giving me a choice, I will opt for normal working
hours start from 9am to 5pm. At least, I can have my own time at night.
And also I will be getting off day on weekend.
My past 2 jobs were on shift basis. I was in call centre and they
require me to work on shift,of course, I did get my shift allowance
for doing so.
I don't mind to work on shift as I get a paid for it.
I just feel bit lazy especially when I am getting an afternoon shift.
When I reached the office, I saw some of my colleagues already worked
half day and when I was about to start to work, few hours late, I saw my
colleagues knock off from their work and say BYE to me. How I wish
I can go back home and rest too.
But it was impossible as I just started to work few hours ago and I
still have long day to go till midnight.
At least once a week I will have to work on night shift till 12 or 1 am midnight.
It is pretty tiring day and I can tell you, even at mignight, the call centre's calls were still busy and the line was still HOT.
However, I do like my previous two jobs and I really learnt alot from there.

Working untill 12am or 1am is tiring. It is ok if by the time the road is still alive and have a lot of people. But it is scary when by the time you go home, there almost no sign of human activity. Watching TV until 12am can be tiring so I expect working until that time will be more tiring. Watching your friend leaves when you just start work for few hours can really make you feel want to go home. And imagine they enjoy their sleep while you have to stay awake at night working really torturing.

My job is supposed to be 8-5,M-F but sometimes, especially when the work load is heavy, we stay until 10-11- or 12 midnight. And that is NO PAY. So it's actually more than a 12 hour shift. I haven't tried a 12 hour shift, but at the rate we're going here at the office, I would like shift work. Also, I love long breaks.

That the worst part of working normal hours mostly office workers. You supposed to work from 8-5 but just because you cannot finish your work because there is too much, you have to stay back. I quess you will be happier if you are given overtime which was not the case.

I like the normal work hours. This is because I have a lot of leisure time at my disposal, and it's really easy to manage my time when I have fixed and permanent work schedules. It also helps me get used to getting up early and I could budget my time in the morning and in the afternoon.
I could adapt to different schedules though, I just prefer the normal ones.

I had always been working on a day-shift schedule except for the two months I had in my current job. My first two months are in a mid-shift schedule that is from 3pm-12mn. At first I thought I can handle it because I usually sleep around midnight, but in that schedule, It took another 2 hours for me to sleep. I get to sleep around 2am and wake before lunch and prepare again for work. I feel I have not much time to spend with my kid unlike if I am in a day shift. But I agree with you, that you can get home faster in a mid-shift. I can also transact at government and banking institutions without having to go on-leave. Still, I want a day-shift schedule since I can wake, sleep and bond with my family at the same time.

Sometimes we do feel a bit sad not able to spend time with our family. That is why most people like normal hour because they can spend more times with their family. I do feel that it is hard to sleep as soon as I reach home. It usually take about a few hours before I go to sleep.

i love shift work too, my school is divided into two shifts, morning from 7am to 12noon and afternoon from 12noon to 5pm. I prefer the morning shift. When i'm on that shift the time just seems to go by so quickly when i'm on afternoon shift it seems like i'm at work for the entire day.

I would prefer the normal working hours. For me, those working time would be enough. I've been in shift work during my younger years and I could say there are lots of things I missed. I opted the normal hours not only for the reason that it is the standard working hours but also to consider our health. Working beyond the normal hours or shifting our sleep habits into different times usually caused sickness, so I just give time that should have to be given for work and give what should be given for myself. Happy mylotting.

I always like normal hours work. I always prefer 10 AM to 6 PM. Yes this is an official hour's works. And I always avoid to doing job where nigh sifts are noon shifts going. I think in normal hour working we don't face any problems and always feel good. And also our schedule never being changed.

I've tried both of the working hours schedule in my life and I prefer normal working hours more than shift rotation. Having a consistent and fixed time to sleep is very important to me, and I also hate and scared going home at night if I work under shift rotation. You are so lucky because you have a job which allows you to have 4 days off in a row. Would be really nice to be able to work in this kind of job if there was a chance. Imagine what you can do for 4 days, you can just keep sleeping or you can even go back to your town to see your family.

Well for me it would really depend on what kind of job I am doing, I won't definitely work on jobs I hate to work be it a normal shift or a 12 hour shift :D. I would love to work as a freelancer rather than working under others and bound by their orders and contracts. I would love to work with my terms and conditions and in a job which I would love to work. But alas everyone is no lucky to have this ;) I don't know what future holds for me, but if its otherwise I would prefer to work 5 days a week and have 2 days. I haven't yet experienced any shifts but I think they definitely cause imbalance in your life as you have to adjust your sleeping hours and other things as per your shifts and that definitely causes an imbalance in your timings of eating, sleeping and other stuff which is bad in the long run. So I would be happy with a job which has normal work routine of 8 hours and a 2 days off a week :D. Any such job avaliable ? you can PM mee :D.
Have a great time mylotting friend :)
