Saving lifetime of mobile's battery?

I have a Nokia 5300, and I often use e-buddy to chat with my friends. However, the battery runs out really quick. I charged it full, and in an hour the battery will be empty. Any suggestion how to save battery life during chatting with e-buddy program?
