Should they pull the plug?

My friend's grandpa is in the ICU right now and he's on life support. He's 89 years old. He was hospitalized due to asthma and now has developed pneumonia and doesn't respond to antibiotics anymore. He can't talk anymore because of the respirator but we can clearly see that he's restless and in pain. He keeps pointing at the respirator machine, begging for his relatives to pull the plug because he can't take the pain anymore. What should they do? I need to comfort my friend. She said she's not ready to let go.

that's a hard one to decide on.... if were her i'd be willing to let my grandpa go... because i'd rather see him die and then be in peace, than to see him suffering alive. i know it will painful on my part, but the pain i'd feel for losing my grandpa is nothing compared to his pain and anguish on his hospital bed.....
