is a successful human government in general a futile effort?

I find it disturbing that people are willing to accept that politicians are notorious liars. They are after all human. Maybe they are telling white lies to protect us in some way. The point remains that our leaders, the people we trust our lives, our CHILDREN'S lives, lie. A lot. I feel like I sound crazy but I know there are many people who can understand what I mean. Is there any foreseeable way to circumvent some horrible blunder or unwanted changes in our lives that could put everything our ancestors fought for at risk? Is there any way to protect our values and morals as a species without stepping on one another's toes? Will humanity ever be one and will it be a good thing when it is? You don't have to answer any of my questions but I do encourage any comments or ideas anybody has.
