I just spent an afternoon watching the NAMCYA or National Music Competition for Young Artists at the UP Abelardo Hall. The category was for piano, level C. That means the competing artists are adept with playing concertos on command. And wow! I just heard a most entertaining and gratifying classical music performances for the piano. The pianists were all at performance level. The judges actually had to deliberate longer but unanimously qualified Heinz Denoyo, Beah Gumarang, Mikhael Lastrilla, Albert Roldan, and Josiah Samaniego for the finals on November 26 at the CCP Main Theater. Considering how gifted these classical musicians are, I wonder now what future has in store for them. I do wish our government could find a place for them to shine.

Hi eileenleyva! I envy you that experience. We never have that kind of competition here in our city and seldom, if ever, do we have live piano concerts here. It could be education for our youth here who are interested to pursue a music career. I wish also the government could do something like having this kind of experiences in other cities, as well.

You are from Davao. I know Davaoenos are innately artistic because I had a classmate who truly loved the arts. I think her family owns the Art Center Davao. Music is universal. I am sure there is a piano teacher somewhere in the city. Watch out for recitals. Teachers stage a recital annually so the students can feel performing on a stage.

I actually teach piano in one of the schools here in Davao and we have annual recital for our music students. And this is why I wish (real hard) we could have live concerts and piano competitions here like that of NAMCYA so our students can witness them and do some benchmarking. And we do have a lot of potential students here. Is that Art Center located at Ladislawa? The family is inclined to arts.

You are a piano teacher! Wow! Do write a letter to NAMCYA so they could do something about your students joining the competition. The delegations for the children's choir category came from distant provinces. I chit chatted with one coach and he said their governor sponsored them to come to Manila. Maybe your governor can also do that. I do not know where the Art Center is located but my friend is called Pam del Rosario.
