Installing apk on droid x?

Hey guys, so basically I try to install APKs to my droid x I have astro file manager and app installer Heres what I did First dled the apk Copied it to root of memory card from windows Opened astro and app installer The issue is I cant see any of the apps and all the folders dont pop up that were on the computer. There are all sorts of folders but are different. I tried pressing home but that didnt work either.
