Do you think our country can still rise-up and become great?

I am seeking for the truth and answers to my lingering questions. My beloved country, the Philippines, is truly beautiful and endowed with sufficient natural resources. Its friendly and hard-working people are both religious and educated. We have tons of engineers, doctors, pilots, architects, scientists, businessmen, entrepreneurs, religious people, miners, nurses, teachers and you name it we have it. They work not only in the Philippines but also in various parts of the world sending added revenues to the country. I am wondering why in spite of all of these advantages, my country is continually mired in poverty and as a consequence, the reference to China in the late 19th century as the "sick man of Asia," is now being used as a reference to the country. Our people resorted to drastic measures in the past to remedy the dire economic situation of the country. We had EDSA-1 People Power Revolution that toppled Marcos, followed by EDSA-2 Revolution and then this year (2010) we have elected a new government headed by Noynoy Aquino, but everything remains the same. The promised reforms never materialized. Worst of all the culture of corruption and impunity reigns supreme. My questions are: A) What shall we do with leaders who does not live-up to its promises? B) What is the best way to compel our leaders to listen to its people. C) Where does the problem lie? Please enlighten me on this matter. Your opinions and suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

yo bro, from the philippines as well, as for your question, i am optimistic that it will happen, in the future, not sure when though, but i hope our youth which is the future, better do it fast. =) for A.)simple to say but hard to do because of peoples different opinions but if possible, be rid of them and replace them with better ones, if they dont live up to the standard, replace them again until we get the good ones. B.) i guess the best way is for the people to make the leaders listen without doing stupid things like doing illegal strikes or strikes that make no sense, or complain about senseless things C. the problem lies in all of us, as a democratic country, we are one people and the people are the rule of the country. in order to improve this, the people, in all walks of life, should be educated about our country, its constitution and all that stuff =)
