Blogging for money?

I personally don't blog for money because I haven't been doing it long enough and don't want to deter my readers with obnoxious ads. However, I may consider it in the future if I develop a large following. I am curious how many bloggers out there use Google AdSense or other sources for revenue, and how this has worked out for them. Also, how long did it take you to develop a decent following?
