Chinese Buffet Suprise

Went out with my hubby for lunch at a local chinese place for the buffet. They really have a nice variety and the food is very nice for the most part. Well today as I was eatting I looked into my plate and noticed something strange looking in the sauce on my chicken. With closer examination I found it was some kind of grub worm that had been cooked, either with the sauce or with the chicken. Either way it ended up in the food and lucky me, I got it on my plate. My stomach when upside and and all around. To say the least I had lost my appatite right at that moment. I brought it to my hubbys attention "who has a weaker stomach them myself" and he brought it to the attention of our waitress. Very quietly so as not to alert others around us and cause a comotion or anything. He simply asked that he speak to the manager. The waitress came back after a few minutes and told us that owner did not want to come out and speak to us as he was afraid we would cause a scene. This was never out intention, and so we found this very rude and insulting. We explained we didn't want to make a scene or bring it to the attention of any of the other diners. In the end he still refused to speak with us and just told the waitress that we were only to be charged for one person. I'm not really sure if my husband was trying to get a discount because of this, but I know I really didn't feel I should pay for a meal that I didn't end up eatting but a few bites of and ended up being ruined by my little suprise. I don't know, how should the owner of a resteraunt handle something like this. Is it common to avoid speaking with your diners if they have an issue like this. I can understand some people might make a big scene and cause alot of commotion disturbing other diners and embarassment to the staff. Has anyone had something similiar happen, how was in handled?

letsee77, This is really disgusting to know and I would definitely teach the restaurant manager a lesson he will never forget or even loose his restaurant license! I had a similar incident where there was actually 2 worms in my plate of fried cabbages and when the restaurant manager refused to step forward, I just shouted my bizarre discovery to make sure that every diner inside knows about it. As it was dinner time, I just took out my Blackberry took a photo of the disgusting plate and the restaurant, then emailed the pictures to the city council, tourism board and health authorities. Every one near my table just stopped eating and by the time the manager stepped forward - it was all too late. I don't think he could be hired to even take out the garbage in any of the restaurants in that city. I am not a vindictive person but this one just really riled me up.

I guess it's not so uncommon to find a little unwanted treasure in your food. Thank you for sharing your story. I never thought of taking a picture of the plate with the grub. I know the waitress was very intent on taking the plate, but my husband insisted that it stay on the table until we talked to the manager. He just refused to come out. If it were to happen again I would certainly keep this in mind. I am not a vindictive person either but some situations call for certain actions, especially when they are not handled correctly by the appropriate people. I think it's bad buisness practice, if you're running a diner or anything you need to be able to deal with the situations that may come up. Yes things happen but it's how you go about dealing with them in the end. Not handling the problem with their guests kind of shows they don't care and would allow it to happen again. So taking it upon yourself to report it really does not put you in the wrong or make you a vindictive person at all. I don't know how some places pass the health inspection.

I've heard of people finding little worms like grain moth larvae in their rice and stuff like that. I know it can happen even if the company does everything the can to prevent it. At least they did something to compensate you. Companies don't like bad reputations and so do their best to please customers and correct errors. Finding anything in my food that's not supposed to be there like bugs, hair, etc. just puts me off.
