I've been playing the bass for more than half my life now. :) I have to admit though that the bass was not my first choice. I wanted to become a drummer. But a good friend of mine introduced me to the bass and I fell in love with it. I just love the role of the bass in a band and music in general. I love how it has a supportive role and te fact that your main goal is to keep everything together --- to provide a solid foundation. There's this feeling of satisfaction when you know you're doing your job and making everyone else in the band look good. :)

Very true, i used to be lead guitar, moved to rhythm and eventually bass for the exact reasons you say above, as well as i find it just fun to play, especially muse riffs!

Way cool man! I love chris wolstenholme's bass tone... really gritty and cuts through! :) Oh a quick question... you mentioned you had a 5-string plexiglass bass? How is it? And how does it compare to a bass made of wood? :) I've been curious about those plexi basses. They look so cool. :)

Well a lot of people complain about instruments not made of wood, and have said to me that I wouldn't get a good tone out of a plexiglass instrument, but I'm actually pleasantly surprised with this one. It cost £80 directly online from the wesley website, because they're not a hugely known brand like fender, or gibson. However, I have had the guitar for around 1/2 year(s) now and it has never let me down, it has a huge amount of bass tones, coupled with my Ashdown 150w amp head and 1500w 15" bass cab, could probably blow the doors off my flat! I think a lot of people prefer to go for the big known brands, but as I found out with my £40 acoustic guitar which is amazing, you can commonly find really good quality instruments, without paying for such a huge price tag :)

I play electric guitar. I have grown up playing instruments since I was a kid. I had a piano keyboard since I was in diapers and grew up and learned to play a few songs on it even though I wasn't very good at it. In elementary school i joined orchestra and played the violin. I played that for a couple years and got bored and started playing the cello. In junior high i got bored with orchestra and switched to band. I started playing the sax and of course i didn't like it so i switched to trumpet and played that until the 10th grade and quit cause i wanted to join choir. After high school I stayed instrumentless for about a year and decided i needed an instrument in my life. So i invested in a guitar. I have had previous "stringed instrument" experience. I have now deemed my self a worthy guitar player and I never get bored with it. I learn more and more every time I play the guitar and am constantly learning and getting better. I like to see playing guitar as gaining exp and leveling up whenever you get another big riff down it is an awsome feeling. Playing guitar keeps me very busy and I wish I would have picked it up in the early stages of my life because I could only imagine how much better I would be at guitar than I already am!

Sound's like you've played a huge variety of instruments there, very diverse! A lot of people would start off with Electric guitar (I wasn't allowed, parents saying they were too expensive) but it's nice to see people still using classical instruments as well. Guitar sure is very rewarding, especially when you form a band, do gigs and learn killer riffs. My band tend to do a lot of Muse, so people are constantly impressed with the complicated and (plain mad) riffs from the songs, and it's ever more of a good feeling when you start playing any random notes and it sounds good, and then make a cool song from it! I started off from an early age, but recently my dad (at 43) started learning guitar and he enjoys it too, which definitely shows that age isn't a factor. I'd recommend going to a few local Jam nights at pubs, because the experience you get from other people, and playing with people you're not used to can be very rewarding :)

I play the piano best (had 2 years of lessons and otherwise self taught). I like to write my own songs and improvise. I played the oboe and had lessons for 3 and a half years, but my sister sold it because she needed the money. I play the recorder (self taught too). I wish I could play more like the ukulele or guitar, which my sister plays. But my hands are kind of too small for the guitar. They can't reach some chords.

I have been playing the piano for 10 years in my childhood, I chose it because I was in love with this instrument, I was toataly crazy about this. I hope that one day I will have the opportunit to have my own instrument, because I used the piano in the music club only!

I am a self taught guitarist both electric and acoustic. I did take 5 years of lessons for the piano and drums and lyrical writting which have left me with alot love for each instrument.

I do wish that I could play an instrument, but i can't. i have a tremendous love for music. I have often thought of learning to play the guitar. That is the instrument that most inspires my love for music.

I play: Acoustic guitar since I was in Grade school. I learned to play guitar by my own, no one taught me how. My favorite would be my HARMONICA.. My way of getting girls when I was in college.. serenading them with romantic songs..

I have been playing guitar for about six years now, and sometimes drums. I got interested in playing the guitar when I was young, I would see people playing the guitar and be amazed at the screaming high pitched sounds that it makes. As for the drums I thought it is really cool since childhood. But I don't practice anymore. I'm focusing on learning a new language now.
