Still Having Reservations With Anti Virus Programs?

I hope not especially those of you who are using Windows based computers. Microsoft in their recent studies have discovered that in America more than 2.2 million US PCs were found to be part of botnets, networks of hijacked home computers, in the first six months of 2010 and between April 2010 and June 2010, Microsoft cleaned more than 6.5 million computers of botnet infections — double the amount for the same period a year before. Botnets start when a virus infects a computer, often through spam emails. The infected machine is then placed under the control of an external hacker, often without the user’s knowledge. So, you should know what to do when you receive suspicious or questionable emails - DO NOT OPEN THEM! Users are advised here to use up-to-date anti-virus software and a firewall, install security updates for all software, upgrade to the latest version of operating systems and products such as Windows 7 and Office 2010, employ strong passwords, and, for businesses, implement and enforce a robust security policy. So, do you still have any reservations with off the shelf anti virus software and change your online habits? I think this is asking for the better good and I do hope that you will reconsider after reading this article. I'm using a Mac right now, virus or any malicious stuffs are not problem. I can go anywhere internet or do I what I want without any limitations. But I still installed a Mac version of Norton Antivirus, at least to limit the spreadings of MS Windows viruses. That news actually is not new to me anymore, I have been a MS Windows users since it was on DOS on late 80's until last 2007. Since it was still on DOS viruses already existing, or since Microsoft started their Operating System viruses are already with them. And after that or since and until now then they did not do anything to improve anything at least of their own technology or product though they have a lot of powers to do all that. Microsoft was been so dependent on third parties for securities applications like McAfee or Norton Antivirus Company, that Microsoft should do that on the first place because thats their own product who has all the problems and they should know how to resolve all of that.

Yes, Mac and Linux doesn't have a lot of security problems like Windows does. I think I read somewhere that their origin is the same.

I use Linux Mint as my main OS so that I don't have to worry about the many hassles that comes with using Windows that is connected to the internet. These are the measure I do to keep my Windows hassles-free: These are done with the connection to the internet disconnected. After I freshly installed the operating system, the softwares needed (including Avast Internet Security) and also setup all the settings of the softwares, I lock the C drive using Deep Freeze. After I have frozen the C drive, changes made to the C drive are automatically reverted to their original state after a reboot or shutdown. This is the best security software I found for Windows.
