What part of Stephen King's novel "The Shining" scared you the most? For me it was the hedge animals... The way they seemed to move when they weren't looking and when they did look back the hedge animals had already changed position. That was scary. ...and of course the lady in the bath tub.

This movie has a lot of scary parts. For me, it would have to be when Danny writes murder backwards on the mirror and starts chanting it. This really creeps me out.

That tub scene is really scary! ...I think Mr. King did a wonderful job of describing the whole situation to his readers... how they are all in the middle of nowhere... no help coming soon... the whole feeling of isolation that you really feel adds to the scare factor. It sets you up so that whenever a scary part comes, you really get jolted. :)

A lot of Stephen King's movies didn't do justice to his books. "The Shining" was an exception, I think mostly to do with the performance of Jack Nichelson. I found the book so full of scary, eerie, troublesome situations that I would find it almost impossible to pick one as being the scariest. As for the movie, I would have to say the scene with Jack axing his way through the door, "Here's Daddy", as the scariest, most disturbing scenes that I have ever watched. It still bothers me to think about it. Happily that won't stop me from reading King though.
