help with laptop

I have a laptop and did go to internet on it, it once belonged to
someone else. It tries to hook up then no connection.
I tried and tried to go to internet on it and it will not
go there now? tried everything I could. unless I am doing it wrong. it is
hp ominbook xe4100 has windows xp on it. can anyone tell me
how to check if wireless is still on there?
and step to step to how to put
it back on? I am still trying. thanks.

what method of internet connection are you using? WIFi? cabled? dial up or 3G

aorry I should had posted that. I have a router on the other computer wihich is a desktop vistia. and I need it on the laptop which is xp. I am useing dsl. thanks.
router is belkin and internet is windstream. thanks.

OK..
1. Please check if you are connected to a network go to startcontrol panelnetwork connection wireless network connection
- you can see from the icon (wireless network connection) if your wifi card is enabled or disabled or if it is connected to your wireless network at home

try also to check your router if it is has wireless capability for some router is for wired cable connectivity options. Regarding to internet connectivity it doesn't matter what OS you use. If your laptop has wireless option try to go to program then press network connection. You will find list of available connection in there.
