How and when did the white wedding dress originated?

Hi muhammadalibs! White is usually associated with purity and sincerity and some of the other positive attributes. I would assume that it's one of the best colors for many to wear it on a special event like a wedding ceremony.

The tradition of wearing a white wedding dress actually started because of Queen Victoria. She wore white at her wedding to Prince Albert in 1840. Before the tradition began, women pretty much wore whatever they thought was beautiful. Their gowns were usually very heavy, covered the entire body, were very rarely white. But instead their gowns were gray or brown and usually embroidered with white or silver thread.
