I bought a mannequin form a long time ago to make my own clothes but its so complicated to set it to the same size as me that I just gave up. So its in a plastic container stashed in a closet. I have a lot of clothes that arent quite fashionable anymore but Im very good at fixing clothes but the problem is how to make new clothes with old ones on myself. I goodled on how to set my mannequin form and stumbled on a video on youtube showing how to make your very own exact form!! You put on an old t-shirt and then using duct tape, you have someone tape all around your body. Then you cut it along the back, tape it back together and fill it with old newspapers or old fabric and VOILA!! You have your own "form" to work on. Now all I need to do is find someone who will help me with the duct tape lol. I like to be able to do things for myself, I feel like Im saving so much money by being creative. What have you done lately that was creative and saved you money??? Heres a link on how to make your own: http://www.ehow.com/how_4425108_make-form-mannequin-duct-tape.html

I watched a similiar video about a year ago. I am in the same boat trying to find someone to tape me up. My husband actually started to, but he was going round and round with the tape so hard, I told him to forget it. I like to make my own clothes, but definitely need a mannequin because I am in between two sizes so it would be better to use one to get a perfect fit.

Oh dear.....asking our men to do something sometimes sounds like we're asking them too much haha!! I watched one video where the woman said it has to be VERY tight because the thickness of the taping will be about 1 to 2 inches too large. So in a way, your husband was doing the right thing (dont tell him though haha). Maybe you'll be able to find a friend who will be able to help you with this. I bought my duct tape and will try to have it done this week. I know about being in between 2 sizes....its a royal pain in the woopteedoo!! Thanks!

Oh don't worry...I never tell my husband if he is right...lol I guess though it does make sense to have the duct tape pulled pretty tight, but he was pulling it soooo tight, I looked like I was flat chested. I think I will get a friend to help me out. Actually, my daughter is 12 and she is just getting into sewing, so maybe I will recruit her to help me out.

Im trying to make my own clothes yes. I have a lot of clothes that are not quite fashionable, so instead of throwing them away, I sort of change them to make them fashionable again. I save money that way. But in order to do so, I need to be able to make them so they fit me. Since I cant sort of fit them to myself, having a form that is the same as me does help. Thanks!
