Marriage and what it means to me.

Every day, I constantly think about how my marriage will look like, and who my wife could be.
Every day, I think about what I can do to make her happy, a way to make my children happy. I want to be a dad who my children will love, and never be embarrassed to be around. A dad that they can rely on when ever they feel the need to lean on a shoulder, or if they have something they need to say, they can say it to me.
Whether you believe me or not, every time I think about marriage, I cry. I shed tears of joy, the years that will be nice and happy for me. How I'll have someone always there to lift me up in times of darkness and sorrow, or vise versa.
What does marriage mean to you?

There are so many people out there who are in such a rush to get married and start a family. Marriage in itself seems to be some sort of great personal achievement. I see marriage as some sort of a major stepping stone in our lives. Marriage is somehow supposed to make someone a better person and solve all of the problems in their lives. Suddenly your crappy career is supposed to turn into a rewarding opportunity of a lifetime. Marriage is a give and take situation. It is not an unconditional agreement. In any successful marriage, the needs of both partners are met successfully for the most part. That is the reason the marriage remains strong and does not fall apart. Many people like to delude themselves into thinking that a marriage license is some sort of an antidote against failed relationships.

Like you said, marriage takes effort, and with out talking to your life long partner, it will deteriorate and crumble. So, again, I wont be committed to marriage until I know I am physically and mentally prepared.

well, I'm still single so I'm not really sure about marriage. I'd like to be as optimistic as you though :)

Marriage is just a label, it doesn't change the nature or meaning of your relationship. So a relationship to me means a deep connection to a life partner. Also no kids.

Almost of the people go in that situation to have a partner and children someday because they really want to enjoy their life together with his/her own family. You are right that you need to think that and plan your future family so that it is not hard for you to make the best for your family. I hope that your dreams about your future family will become successful.

Because i'm already married, marriage has a different meaning to me. For me marriage is responsibility. If you're not ready to take responsibilities then you should not fall into this kind of relationship in the first place.

I agree. Marriage is a huge responsibility, and that is why I don't plan on getting married until I am 100% sure I can handle everything associated to marriage.
