November 1 Announced as Special Non-Working Holiday: What is your opinion?

Just now, Department of Labor and Employment announced that November 1, All Saints Day, for the year 2010, is a SPECIAL NON-WORKING HOLIDAY. In the previous years, we celebrated November 1 as a REGULAR HOLIDAY, which means that people working in that day will receive 200% of their salarr. With the said announcement, people who will work on November 1 will only receive 130% of their salaries. This is unfair for people like me who is working for a Korean company that doesn't recognize Philippine holidays. I think this is also unfair for Call Center Employees. What is your call on this?

Somehow I feel sad for that of why it was changed. Its been how many years that November 1 is always considered as Regular Holiday. Then now all of a sudden it was changed to just Special Non - Working Holiday. I've been into that different field of companies and I really feel bad everytime the Holiday would just turned into Special Non working Holiday. What ever the reason why the government changed it, it surely did not give a good effect for those who are working on that day.

Yes, you are indeed right. It feels so terrible. My co-workers are ranting now the same way that I do. I wonder what the government is thinking this way. It is not really helpful at all. I think you are a Filipina too, right? Do you think our government will still change their minds about it?

here in my country 1st november is also an holiday^^ and if you work in that day you receive double your salary ahah^^ so sure people usually dont mind to work in that day if they receive^^ but you say that now in your country you wont receive double im sorry it seems that as years pass by governments want to pay less and less to people. they always find a way to pay less. im sorry for your situation really and i wish that that doesnt happen in my country. but yesterday my sister was saying that bosses are not obligated to pay your salary doubled but that isnt fair bcs is written in the law. but people sometimes shut up with afraid to lose their jobs wish it can be better soon^^

Yeah, I really feel so sad about this. The only reason why am I convincing myself to work on that day is that it is a double pay when all of a sudden, it would be changed to just an additional 30% to my salary. It feels really awful. Anyway, I hope things could still change (but I atually doubt it) and I think most people will be forced to go to work on this day. :(

I really hate it that we have to go to work while everyone else are at the cemetery visting their deceased loved ones while we work hard here for only an additional of 30%. It would be fine with me if I missed all that, the tradition I've been doing with my family for twenty years for like 200% salary, it would be a good enough compensation. But cut down to only 30% percent, are they out of their minds? Do they want workers walking away from them? The new president is out of his mind either, what's going on? I wish there were no work on a holiday. That would be fine with me. It happened when Korea had their Chuseok, why can't we have ours? I'm so pissed. I just want to stay at home. The black jacket and blouse really match my mood. I really want to go to the cemetery with my family, it happens only once in a year. I wish my lolo and lola will not visit me later in my dreams. May they rest in peace.. and so do those people behind this Hell-of-a-day! God forgive me. Peace out!
