Which do you like reading more? Do you think the choice is linked to a person's patience? I mean will someone with more patience prefer novels and those with less patience prefer short stories as they can be completed faster? Is there any such connection in your opinion? I am fond of both.

I prefer short stories before sleeping.they would be finished in just a one go.and in that way you could enjoy an new intresting short story every night before you sleep.I love short story llection by Jaffery Arher. But when iam free and have nothing left to day in day then i go for novels whih are ever ending and will leave a feel in your heart unlike the short stories which are just a Enjoy a minute experiences. I find novels more intriguing.Short stories also have their charm coz you read them for the moment without the need to trace the development of the characters throughout the story.Novels require persistence and dedication.

Some short stories specially those of Katherine Mansfield also require persistence since it mainly develops through hints and suggestions and the reader has to interpret them.I loved 'The Fly' by Mansfield. It is a wonderful story to read with deeper levels of meaning.

I like both, and I visit the library I often borrow some short stories as well as some novels. I like books that contain short stories by many different authors, because that often gives me the chance to read stories by authors that I haven't heard about before. If I really like the stories I sometimes look for other books by the same author for instanse some of the novels the (s)he has written. Sometimes I feel that I need more energy when I read short stories, because I met new characters and new situations all the time. When I read a novel I also need to pay attention to the story, but after a while I get to know the characters and I don't need to "start from the beginning" every time I read a new chapter.

Very nicely said!Anthologies are always better for the wide variety and choice we get.

For me reading has nothing to do with patience. But I like a story (or novel) that hooks me to it. It has to do a lot with how well it is written. I don´t like books that are not well written as I´m a writer in my own language.

I don't think that patience has to do with it. If a person really likes what he is reading then it doesn't matter if it is a novel or just a short story. When you are enjoying what you are reading you don't realize that you've already read a lot. The book or story should be interesting enough for the reader to make the him finish the whole thing.

sometimes it does happen to me. when the novel's too long and i want to finish it right away and i can't, i get disappointed. but that's because i am always busy and when i'm reading i don't like to get distracted because when that happens sometimes i lose my interest in what i'm reading, unless the book is really very interesting, then i don't let my impatience or the distraction get in the way, i just get back to it soon as i can. short stories are appealing to me.

For me it doesn't matter if its a short story or a novel as long as the story is good and engaging to read. If a person is not fond of reading, even short story would be turned down.

It really depends on how much time I have to read with my job and all my other obligations. Usually i prefer novels though. I feel as though I get more into the story and get to know the characters better. I actually love series of novels, like Harry Potter. Waiting for the book is torture but when you get the next book its like nothing else matters but you and the characters and what will happen next...

I'm fond of both too! I think that people hardly ever see short stories as interesting as novels. That and short story collections are kinda hard to come by unless you really know who or what you're looking for. The short story is an art in and of itself and people don't realize this. Writing a short story is harder that writing a novel and this is because from beginning to end, there has to be a lot that has to happen :)

Now I really don't read very much because most of my free time is spent in internet, but in my reading days I much preferred novels to short stories. I usually really couldn't get as caught up in a short story as I could in a novel. By the time the piece had my interest it was over. But I really loved curling up with a good novel.

A short story is attractive to me than a novel as it takes less time to finish the reading. It is the usual line of thinking in relation to my choice for a novel or a short story. But other factors also play a role. The writer, the topic, the language, the presentation, & all these factors determine my choice between a partcular novel & a short story.

People have individual preferences. I believe that it is a matter of having the love for reading. If the person loves reading she/he can read a book even if it has a long story. But for those who reads just for the sake of reading, wants to get something to make them sleep or looking for things to do out of boredom their wise choice would be short stories. For myself If I have plenty of time I love reading novels especially those authored by my favorite writers like Ludlum,Patterson, Sheldon etc. But if I just want to take to read in order for me to sleep I take a short story or a daily bread type of reading material before dozing off.

I am also fond of novels and short stories, I used to read them when I am free, I think when you are reading any thing then you are involved in that story, you think your self in place of the character then there is no patience needed in that reading, but it all depends on the writer, a good writer always involve the reader in his novel or story and for the novel you want to finish early, is due to the plot and bad quality of that novel that you want to get rid of it as soon as possible... Have a good day....

I do enjoy reading both short stories and novels, although I probably do read novels more often though. I find that both are enjoyable to read. I have fun doing both.

hi oindy, I believe it is about the habit and interests when it comes to reading. I have a taste of collecting books related to my field and sphere of assignments. When I am programming I read more of PHP and when I am counseling, I read more about careers, family, relationships etc. The size doesnt matter. What matters is the content and quality. I think same stands when you are reading books. Many have a taste for Novels and many have a passion for short stories. I read short stories or novels only while traveling or waiting in a queue to meet my doctor... because I have time. Hope that helps, Regards, theSids.

Short stories please. It will take me a long time to complete a novel, with long breaks in between. So the next time, I took out a book to continue, I would have forgotten the bulk of the content that I have read.

i like both novels and short stories actually i like novels more because the plot is more vivid and interesting and lots of details connected to each other but short story on the other hand misses these kinds of things. and the sense of satisfaction in more after reading a novel as you are aware of the time invested in reading a novel..
