Why does the director call it the ''2012'' rather than "2013" or other name?

As we all know that the 2012 is a famous movie made in USA,the movie tells the story of natural disasters foretold by ancient calendar angle.But I do not know why the director called it the 2012 rather than other years?Is the end of the world really in 2012 ?
As the 2012 becomes closer,natural disaster is more frequent than ever.If you open TV ,it often report that there were many natural disaster in some places and many people died.I do not know whether you feel that the climate become abnormal.There are many strange things appearing.Such as, there is a hole in the grand suddenly in some places.UFO often appear in the sky.Does it predict that the end of the world will come or that just the normal phenomenon of the nature?Which would you believe?

The funny thing about it... and most people seem to have forgotten this...
The 2012 thing was started by the ending of the X-Files some 8 years ago. It was the X-Files which used the Mayan calendar to annonce the end of the world in 2012. And ever since, people have been talking about 2012.
I did not think the film 2012 was very realistic. It was over done.
"The day after tomorrow" was far more realistic and plausible.
Whatever happen will happen, wether in 2012 or later.
But I don't expect a total end of the world.
It will be just big enough to wipe two third of the population of the planet, so that we can have a fresh start. But it will be very costly and we face the prospect of losing all our technology.

Well because of the mayam prediction that is not true. But that date just stuck up for some reason.

I guess the movie is titled 2012 because rumour has it this is when the word will end.
Personally I have no reason to believe 2012 will be the end to of the world! I agree there have been more disasters natural and otherwise which have killed and injured many; I don’t know why but I certainly do not see it as some kind of culling going on! 2012 is the last year on the Mayan calendar so could this be the reason?

Natural disasters have been happening since the world began[ it is an evolutionary world] after all[ as is the whole universe] to me [and this is my opinion of course]nothing stays the same every thing changes it's a natural part of evolution [ whether we like it or not ] it's bound to happen any way. Today we can see the world, [internet took care of that] so we know more than before about what is happening in the world today. My friend do not fret about the end of the world, live and enjoy your life as it's today! tomorrow will take care of it self!

It was entitled "2012" because it was based on the Mayan Prophecy/Calendar that is a cycle of sorts. LOL
With regards to the disasters, it's the effect of climate change.

According to mayan calender 2012 dec 21 is an end of one Era, not end of the world.
Another reason is a story about a planet Nibiru ,headed towards earth.
The Third story is that a polar shift will occur in 2012,after that the north pole became south pole and south became north.
There are several other stories like this also, like solar storm,
These are all meaningless stories, they don,t have any scientific proof. And even people changed the story about mayan calender it tells about the end of era and our people changed it into end of world and it became popular.
So the Director combined all these rubbish together and gave the name 2012

Obviously, you don't get it because if you did, you wouldn't ask a question like this. Okay, for the longest time, everyone (Mayan, Aztecs, Nostadamus, and other psychics and prediction fanatics) has been saying that the world will end on 12/12/12, basically, December 2012, but here is the kicker, people are now saying that that date isn't right, it is much later than that. Towards the end of this century actually.
He wouldn't call it "2013" because that doesn't make sense, the world won't end in 2013. He called it "2012" because that is when the world was said to end. He got it from the prediction.

As mentioned, the movie called 2012 based on the Mayan calendar. As for the natural disaster, the frequency of it happening is shorter and the scale of the devastation and damages is more and more severe. As for the weather, one can notice it as well. It rains when it is suppose to be bright and sunny and vice versa. For me, I will believe in such prediction. From the olden times, they managed to predict many times which turn out to be true. Without doubt, some were false.

maybe the world will end soon. i dont know if is in 2012 or not but it might happen. i remember to watch a documentary in school about world ends in 2050 if things didnt change. if we continued to make bad to the nature. also the earthquakes are happening much lately. and also flood too. so i dont know if the world will end soon or not but i really wish it doesnt. i still want to live more years. but yes the prediction is 2012 so we all should live our life to the fullest till then^^

The movie is base on the Mayan calendar. According to the Mayan calendar the end of the world is in 2012 that's why the movie is entitled as such. What happened in that movie was not a natural disaster but it was expected to happen due to the extreme and drastic increase of earth's core which made them predict that it would be the end of the world.
However, I don't believe in this because I believe in the bible. The 2nd coming of God will be a surprise to all of us, so nobody can predict it. If somebody could then God would change it because as the bible said, it will come like a thief in the night.

First of all, i think the director called the movie 2012 because it sounds much more catchier than 2013 or any other year. Secondly, according to Mayan( might have spelt wrong) calendar, the world is going to end in 2012, so the movie is based on Mayan calendar, i think.
I do think that something disastrous is going to happen in 2012, maybe not the end of the world. I think something bad is going to happen in 2012 because of what we have done, destroying the world.

hmm ya ur right actully ther was some resons for wich the name 2012 is given bec ther was so much roomers that in 2012 the earth will end amd this jotish and many other baba have told this so he may be inpierd by that. nd other reons is that k movie they have shown very less time so if they have given name 2013 then the perio is laso incresses so we will not wonder k in such a short time tey have made this much big sheep. and one more reson is ther k 2013 doesnot sutes as name and not evn good to speek while 2012 is esy to speek as well as rember and u may be knowing k fill name make too much difreene so 2012 was the best name for this movie.
