I am interested in hearing opinions on the subject of pulpit politics. Do you think that it is appropriate in God's eyes and legal according to the U. S. Constitution for a pastor to preach politics from the pulpit?

there is supposed to be a separation of church and state. I think that applies more to the government not preaching religion, than the opposite. So legally, i think that it is okay. I would like to think that a pastor has more important spiritual issues to deal with than to get involved in the politics of our country.

My copy of the Constitution says that the government shall make no law respecting the estabishment of religion, or the free exercise of religion. It says absolutely nothing about separaion of church and state. From my studies I gather that the founder's intent was that government would not run religion, as was popular in Europe. The Declaration of Independence states that the rights of the citizens are God-given, not state-given, and in fact we are obligated to keep govenment in line that it not infringe on our rights. Preaching from the pulpit is one of the most effective ways of protecting the rights of the citizenry. Furthermore, my Bible tells me that God holds each of us responsible for preaching the truth about the evil ways of man and government, from the rooftops and the pulpit.
