I've noticed many people respond to discussions on Mylot sounding like cherubs, always doing exactly the right thing, always taking the honest pathway. others seem to use the anonymity to voice their dark side. do you think you are nicer or nastier online? why do you think people behave like this, and do you think it adds or detracts from their opinions?

Imho, it's better to be yourself online. Take advantage of that anonymity. The society we are in demands us to be someone we're really not, atleast most of the time. This kinda clogs our personality and we have to release that clog by being ourselves once in a while.

triple resoponse! yeah i agree with the sentiment, but it's also nice to play the actor once in a while, be whomever you want to be, i think that can be just as important, expecially to those who don't feel all that happy with who they really are. I'm mostly nice but have a darker side, i think that my online persona is similar...

So you mean you become a different person online because you hate yourself?

no and perhaps yes. somepeople dream of being somone else, it's not a bad thing. I once posed as a bloke in a conversation as there were too many women, the internet allows you to be the person you want to be, if you are too polite to swear at friends in life, the internet lets you do it without you losing your reputation. Peer pressure and others expectations drop and that allows you to experiment more, taste the apple and see if you like it.

of course they want to be nice with others for them to gain friends and reputation.. sometimes there are discussions here that are annoying, what I do is just ignore and skip the discussion... i am nice.. lolz!

yeah i suppose i am nice most of the time, but i'm much nastier to stupid people on mylot, and i can be quite brazen with those who obviously don't know the rules

I am the same both offline and online. Honestly! I don't see the point of trying to be someone you are not, no matter where. But I am sure there are people who are not being themselves, both offline and online.
