Are you CREDIT worthy???

India

While shopping this afternoon (as Diwali is fast approaching), I handed my credit card to the Billing counter. The person behind me had a lots of goodies too,-- armed with a Platinum card of a prestigious Bank I guess. While he was waiting for his turn to pay, he dialed in the customer care of his Bank and he was requesting them to make his card payment in Easy installments (EMI's). The next call that he made was to one of his friends probably wherein in a very gregarious tone he was bragging how he made the customer rep agree that how he shall make the payments in the coming 12 months without any additional interest. A pause. My mind wound back. Thinking that there were times when people if they had to ask for credit or loan they would feel ashamed. The society would treat you as if you were some untouchable if you cannot meet your expenses and borrow money for that.In rural India, not so long ago a money borrower would be despised by his friends and family. I guess in some places still this ancient concept is alive and kicking. And here, me standing in the Que am feeling proud that I have got x amount of money as the limit which somehow symbolizes how much "credit-worthy" I am! That is to say I can spend that much but I don't earn that much, so what I do is I am BORROWING... So how much credit worthy are you? What's your view on this? On a second thought, am I just plainly rural???

hello dear bhai, I am credit-free,not credit-worthy I don't like borrowing money because i don't have money to pay it back (hahaha...just kidding) Honestly i don't borrow money ,i don't have any credit card and i don't entertain bank offers for credit loans. I want to spend money in my convenience. Though sometimes i am thinking for emergency cases that credit card can be helpful. But,until now i haven't made up my mind to accept any offer of opening a credit card. I lived in the city where life's always in the fast lane. I have my ATM card good as debit card and i don't carry cash with me always. I love spending money and treating myself with things that i think i deserve to have. There are times that i run out of cash, and i wanted to buy something,i can use my ATM/DEBIT card, but,i resent from doing so. That maybe the reason why i don't want to have a credit card,i don't want to see myself one day drowned in credit (whooo..i'm not a wise spender dear brother) I can be impulsive sometimes esp when i want to treat myself for things that i really really want.(wow, can't see myself buying that new LED GREEN TV worth 100 thousands pesos -or 100 thousand rupees ..is it 100 lakhs? ) have a good day always dear bhai

Dear Didi, umm It would be 10 lakhs actually. How do you know the lakh concept??? Honestly, didi I felt the same about owing a credit card, but as life and the way one does business has changed rapidly, at times you are compelled to go with the flow. For internet purchases and many more transactions having a cc is an absoloute must. My Rail and Air bookings are made through it. Earlier for making a railway reservation one had to spend hours in a que where the line would move even slower than a snail. It should be seen more as an advantage which technology has to offer. How we take it depends on us. Nice to see you around didi and you have a very nice day too

Here in the U.S., it all depends on your income and your ability to pay. I have one credit card, and that is all that I have, and I only use it when I have to, or need to.

Hi Rogue, Thats the wisest thing to do, isn't it to use the facility for making life easier. And not to misuse it.i guess, the scenario is all the same worldwide now about credit cards, well almost worldwide.
