People cannot handle the truth!

I am a very honest person and tell people what I think of them. I'm not the type to be rude about it, but if someone asks me what I think of their outfit, makeup, personality, lifestyle, whatever, I tell them the truth. Every single one of my friends and family have told me that my honesty is the main reason why they appreciate having me in their life. Yet why is it that whenever someone asks me for my opinion on something serious, they are surprised that I tell them the truth. Supposedly the main reason I have so many friends is the one that always ends up being the reason they are mad at me. So my question is this, why do so many people ask for the truth when they don't wanna hear it?

The reason why people ask for truth when they don't want to hear it is that they expect you to lie, just like they do. You look gorgeous! That actually means the dress is gorgeous not you! Oh! My! you look absolutely fit! means, you are downright scrawny! My lips are sealed! means this story is going to make rounds of gossip circuit, and I didn't do it. Life and behavior have changed with social life being more important than straight talk. Truth has been demoted to crass behavior now. That is the new morality as is "join 'em if you can't beat 'em".

It is good to be honest but you need to understand the situation first before giving your opinions or comments. Are they really asking for the truth or they just want to be notice and appreciated. Truth be told, people sometimes ask and not expect you to be honest with it just give them the answers they want to hear. :D

I think its good to be honest, but like you said not being rude is always important. Its good that there is someone in the family that trys to always be honest though because nowadays theres too many people that arn't and you never know when they are telling the truth or not.

Interesting question you have posed. I think truth and your opinion on a matter are two different things. People who ask what you think about their make-up or dress for example, may be hurt by your response if they hear that you "honestly" don't like their make-up or outfit. In that kind of a situation, your honest opinion is only your truth as pertains to your likes and dislikes about how they present themselves at that moment. When people confuse personal likes and dislikes with being what is the truth about themselves as a person, may be hurt by a negative response. The truth is how do THEY feel about how they look. How ever, when it comes to people and the truth, my preference is don't be afraid to tell me how you think I look, because I have always appreciated it when someone discreetly pointed out that speck of food on my lip, or between my teeth, that allowed me to make a quick personal adjustment before presenting myself to the public. And as for others not wanting to hear your truth, well if someone asks you to tell them truthfully about a matter, and you are the giver of all truth, then you should know that there are people out there no matter what, don't like hearing the truth. So the bottom line is, if someone asks you your honest opinion about something, and you don't want to deal with the possibility that they may be mad at your response, then you may have to be honest again, and say you would rather not comment. Or come up with a very clever seguay, something like, "Hey, did you see that?"

Honesty is never a question of a good character. yes it is truly an impressive aspect..but honesty comes with great responsibility as well.as you see, the world is full of dishonesty and we live with it.because in some point people needs to shut things up.Basing on how you stated it, what may not be rude to you may be rude to others. not all people in this world are that open minded as everyone else. we all know that the truth hurts.Sometimes knowing the truth or accepting the truth would always come from within. there are certain things in life that are better left unsaid. because people sometimes realize puzzles of their own.we could never force them to know and realize the truth. we should always know when to be honest or truthful with our opinions, because not all people understand how they work. being honest or telling the truth is not the issue, it is more on when to let them out..I always admire this saying, that every person in this world would simply survive everything if he/she is in the side of truth..
