I would definitely say street smart. I have known people that have all kinds of degrees, and they have no common sense. I sometimes wish they could teach common sense in school.

So right you are. But unfortunately common sense can't be taught. You either have it or not. There are no doubt a lot of educated fools in the world. Make me wonder why so many people always harp on how high someones IQ is.

Oh I know! That is why I was saying I WISH they could teach common sense in school. LOL There are times I wish you could learn it, as so many people don't seem to have any. I actually wish they could teach life skills in school. I think they harp on certain skills that kids USUALLY won't use again (algebra being one of them). They need to bring things like Home Ec back in to the schools and other life skills.

I would go streetsmart books to me are just guidelines, I get more knowledge by application but of course then if I could keep both I would some applications are too dangerous to take on without knowing the basics

I guess that would depend on which side of my brain was doing the thinking at the particular moment I needed to answer that question. Now, IF I had a brain, I would be asking all kinds of questions like why do I have to choose? What is going to happen to the other half of my brain? If I choose one side and don't like it, can I go back and choose the other side? Who the heck is in charge here??? Seriously, though, if I HAD to choose, I'd probably choose the street smart side. I'm much better dealing with real life than I am with books, although I've read a fair share of books in my lifetime.

Street Smart! In today's crazy world we live in, it's virtually a requirement. When you are incredibly street smart, you almost have a 6th sense in alot of situations. One of the biggest problems today (IMO) is integrity seems to be lost forever. no one keeps their word/promise. For survival purposes, one needs to be able to detect when they've encountered a "snake",live and in person. Street smarts gives you this ability to know the differnce.

Ok I hear you...but remember, age and common sense don't always go hand in hand. And sometimes there are things that you need to know like right NOW and you don't have time for it to come around until tomorrow or sometime in the unpromising future.

Though it is unlikely, I would have to choose street smart. Being street smart helps you survive and be aware of the real things that are going on all around you. It also helps you earn cold hard cash if you know how to use it wisely. I would have to say there are a lot of things that schools don't teach us and a lot of things we can learn on the street(Experience).

You touch on a lot of good points. Schools can only teach us so much. But what happens when people are thrown into the cold hard experience of the real world? What happens then??...

Well, given a free choice I want both. But if I can choose only one and not both, that will be easy. I would choose street-smart, of course. In this fast moving world where survival of the fittest matters, if you are not the fittest you will be finished. How can book-smart help you survive in this rapidly changing? What they learn are theories not practical experience. Only street-smart can fight the battles of today and survive and continue to survive.
