What do you think of the death penalty?

I am personally against the death penalty, but it just so happened that I read that article about the triple homicide trial in New York Times today, had to question my position. Remember the one about the doctor's wife and two daughters sexually assaulted and then murdered? Well, it took me a while to ponder over it and remind myself why i was (and still am) against the death penalty. 1)killing another person wont bring the killed person back. It's hard for me to imagine what the victim's families are feeling, but while the burial and trial would give me some closure, I don't think another killing would 2) contrary to what many think, it IS actually cheaper to have life without parole or other NON-death penalty cases/convictions. 3) if a person is mentally unstable it is inhuman to apply death penalty, if he is in their right mind, there may still be a chance to turn them around 4) Under the right conditions, a murderer can work to pay the victim's family. I would like to hear your opinions?

It's easy to say I'm not for it... That I'm against it. But I have never experienced having any of my family killed or murdered. I don't know how heart-breaking it could be. It's not easy to tell...

When people have a sound government and established laws, it is certainly reasonable. Not such happy times for the victim, but necessary to bring about obedience to the law and minimize crime.
