What was the first thing you bought with your very first salary?

Earning the first time really gives one a self of accomplishment! The very first time I received my salary I bought two pairs of colorful socks, one on sale book, half a sack of rice (yeah so proud I can finally contribute in our house) and a dress for my niece. My wage wasn't exactly that big. The next morning I had to ask my mother if I can borrow money for fare! I got so excited I forgot the next day's budget. lol How bout you? Where did your first salary go to?

I bought a tricolor ring as a souvenir for my first salary. It was like a wedding ring. And everytime some guys are attracted to me and see it, they back out of their intention to befriend me. they thought i was already married. even my husband now. However, out of curiousity, he asked one of my girl officemate to confirm if i'm really married and when she said not yet, he ask her to introduce him to me. and the rest was history... :)

By the way, in times of crises, sometimes i pawn the ring to augment our daily needs.then redeem it back from the pawnshop when i have extra money. very useful indeed !!

My mom does that too. She says her jewelry saved us. They are not for show, mind you. She rarely wears them.

Well, it takes really interest to after someone who just might be married. Lucky for your husband you weren't! Oh jewelry. I think that's a very good investment for your salary.

Wow, that was such a long time ago. I guess my first paycheck came from working during the 2000 Presidential Election. I was working the poll that day. Anyways, I was so hyped when I cashed that check. It was my hard earned money and I was proud of it. I ended up giving my parents half of it and I used the rest to buy a few books and treat my siblings out to eat at Denny's.

The very first pay I made I can't remember what I spent it on because I put it in my savings and just spent it over time. The second really job I had I never actually got paid because I quit after the first day and it got put in some employee account and I could never figure out how to access it. The last thing I did I used toward my wedding, I bought my Maid of Honor her gown.

Well, when I got my first job I as 16 and had been saving up all year to buy a complete period costume and had spent all my money on the outfit. The ladies working in the shop were short a hand for the weekend and offered me the job for the next day. So since I had used all my money on my costume, I saved the pay that I made for later needs.

16 is quite young to start earning. Well from our country's standards anyway. I really believe that the earlier you learn to earn good money the better you learn to be responsible for yourself. Even if it means spending it all in costumes. At least you worked for it yourself and not whined to your parents.

Wow! To have the discipline to put it into savings, that's really admirable. All I was thinking back then was to find something to spend it in. lol

I started my first full time job when I was only sixteen and I recall receiving my very first pay packet. They used to pay the staff in cash in those days; I remember being handed a yellow envelope containing my money. I went shopping after work on my first pay day and I remember buying a new and rather expensive top. I was so very proud of myself because for the first time in my life I had earned every inch of that top myself!

Hello sanuanu! Great to see you too! I bought that top when I was sixteen and the chances of it still being around is zero but it's okay because I bought many more since! (LOL)

I like your question. It makes me look back and realize how small my salary was when I started. Haha. When I got my first paycheck, I bought a pair of decent shoes that O could wear to work because my the ones I were using that time were falling apart. And I treated myself to a nice dinner at a fastfood chain. Haha! Those were the days.

Well, you did well for your first salary. For me, I couldn't remember much. I think I bought groceries like apples, ribena, rice, instant noodles, eggs and stuff for few mmonths until I resigned. I bought nothing instead I was asking money from dad.

While I do not fully remember as to what did I bought, I did had a dinner alone at a restaurant for INR 100/-. Does not sounds big now, however, it was a significant amount then in the year 2001.

Good question. Well, as far as I remember, It was way back in 2003. That time we had no income source and my mum was very ill. Dr asked her to be on bed for the next nine month. My dad lost everything in his business. Well, it was the time when I was syill in my Ist year. I started giving tutions and I still remember when I had my first sallary, we did not even have money to even eat anything. It was not much, my sallary, but I gave it to my mom and the look, the blessings I got from her I will never forget. That was not much but still my biggest earning till now. It does not matter that today I am earning 40 times more than my first sallary but my first sallary will always my biggest contribution to my family.

The first times, especially if they are really appreciated are really worth remembering. I'm glad you're first salary somehow eased the burden of your family.

During my schooling days, I worked part time during the school holidays. With my first pay, I went to get myself a sega set. When I start my working career, the first thing I got myself was a mobile phone.

Way back I used to pine for a sega set. But I soon got entertained with other things. When my mother bought us our PC I found many other entertaining ways to play.

For the first time in my life, I bought my own BIBLE. I believe that my job is a blessing from God. And it's to Honor Him for the firstfruits of my work. God bless!

If we recognize every blessing he gave us each day, it's a lot more better to start a day, and to live each day.

Boy that was a long time ago. My first job, other than babysitting, was in a clothing boutique. It was high end clothes and I was very lucky to get the job. I was only working on the weekends, Friday evenings and Saturday during the day as back then stores closed at 6pm on Saturdays. My first paycheck was for two weeks so it was for around $40 and I used it to buy my very first pair of brand new jeans. I always wore jeans before that but only hand me downs from my 3 older sisters. There were always hand me downs all my life because my mom and father had 8 kids so we were always broke. I was 15 years old and I was so proud of myself wearing those new jeans. I think I paid around $20 for them and that was a lot of money back then. Come to think of it, that's a lot of money now for jeans as I usually only pay around $15 now for my jeans. I wait for them to go on sale or on the clearance rack before I buy them. I think those jeans lasted me around 4 years as I made sure I took real good care of them and I didn't wear them out by wearing them a lot. I only wore them for special occassions when I wanted to look real nice. I didn't get to buy very many new clothes as my father started taking my paychecks from me and only giving me an allowance from it, around $10 every paycheck. My father was a mean drunk and he took my money from me for alchohol. I quit my job after about 6 months of his taking my money but I told him I got fired and so I got kicked out of the house and had to move in with one of my older sisters and babysit her kids for board and room and I had to quit school, which is all a different story and doesn't belong here on this discussion. So yes, I do remember my first paycheck purchase and thank you for the reminder about it as it hasn't been in my thoughts for many years, my first new pair of jeans. Good luck my friend and happy mylotting Chris

The first thing I bought with my first salary is a pair of new shoes! There was this shoe which I pass by every after work and I kept looking at it everyday and swore myself that I'll buy it on my salary. :D Some sort of a want :D

Come to think of it. I've never bought my own shoes. Ever! My mom always buys those for me. But I do know the feeling when you finally get what you want for yourself!

My first job was at the local library and I made 4.45 an hr. My cousin and my aunt told me to buy a piece of jewelry with my first paycheck that way I could always have that to remember my first job by. But I'm a bit of a nerdy girl and jewelry held no attraction to me. Plus I am a bit of a rebel and I do the opposite of what people tell me to do. My first purchase was a CD player! This was back when it was still standard to have a tape deck on your CD players too! Lol I kept that player for years! My ex borrowed it about 3 years ago to play music while he was working. One day I went to his work to pick it up and he wasn't there. I found out he had quick work and moved all this stuff to one of his sibling's homes. That was the last I saw of that CD player. Lol I guess it's just another reason to hate that jerk!

While waiting for the results to my GCE O Level Exams back when I was 16, the first job I got was as a beauty advisor. I was given a basic salary plus commission. When I got my first paycheck, I bought a radio cassette recorder for my mother so that she can listen to the radio while cooking in the kitchen. That was the first thing I bought as far as I can remember.

Oh so sad! I really can understand your frustration with that one. Isn't there a local dealer for that mobile phone? OR you can try ebay. Or is this about paypal issues too?
