The prime minister of Australia announced that those who want to migrate in Australia should adapt to their culture. and if they cannot adapt, they better leave or do not go to Australia. I agree with him, as a foreigner who want to be part of their culture, I think it is but right to adhere to their rules and regulations. Don't you think so?

That is the most logical way of thinking in this regard. Wherever country might that be or in whatever situation, the ones who moved to a different country where they do not have roots in should always adapt to the culture and the way of living to their new settlement. It is a courtesy as a newcomer to comply to the rules, regulations or whatnot of the place they moved to.

Bulls eye! This is to have harmony with the people and culture you are about to live with. I appreciate you dropping by to share your idea.

That was former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, right? It echos the national feeling on the issue to some extent. In his electorate & in the surrounding areas, immigration & immigrants is a huge issue. Down here in SA, we need all the people we can get! The problem is, immigrants come here as skilled migrants, work for a year or two, send all the money they've earned back home & then bring their extended families over too. This crowds out our already overcrowded cities, takes our jobs from us & occupies some of the best of our limited housing. They all get together in their communities & threaten to take over... first the Asians, then the Muslims, etc. My opinion on the matter is that migrants should get jobs in the regional cities which not only pay more, but have cheaper housing which is sometimes free, or very close to it. Immigrants in the main, come here & expect a free ride. There have been some examples of some very good ones too though. English migrants know the score - it is little wonder that the bulk of our migrant intake is from there every year. They seem to have the least problem integrating & contribute far more than they demand, being more likely to settle in & establish regional areas.

Yes, actually this topic refers to his speech where he mentioned that all those who want to come to Australia should adapt and not for Australians to adapt to cultures brought by many migrants swooping Australia these days. I like his idea. I agree with you that migrants do work there and bring the bacon home. well, that is how it works these days.

And what are your detailed thoughts on your final comment? Should those immigrants who keep their money here & invest in Australia 100% be more likely to be accepted against those who send money back to their old country overseas? Traditionally, English migrants invest everything here; it's little wonder these people have always made up about 80% of our migrant intake, heavily favoured over most other countries who just want to take, take, take & give precious little back.

When I was in Australia I began speaking with an Australian accent. I think that I fitted in and I would have been happy to stay there forever. If I had migrated there on a permanent visa I would apply for citizenship once I had lived there for a few years. I think that it is a great idea migrants adopt the Australian culture. It is fine to offer an Italian flavor because their food is great.

I want to to travel to Australia too. I think it is cool to speak their accent. I met an Australian years ago and I was amazed with her accent. Italian foods are great too. We cook some in our country.

I think the policy was ok.This may protect native culture and prevent culture conflicts. This phrase‘adapt to’here means totally change or integrate? To me the second one is more properly. ^_^

You are right. adapting is to integrate. I think it is also difficult to totally change whatever is there. To integrate is really a better term.LOL

yes, you are right. if you want to be happy where you want to migrate, then you have to adjust to your new life there. thanks for a reply anyway!
