"It was sold by a woman clearing out her late sister's house, and had been valued at 1.2 million pounds. But after fierce competition, it was bought Thursday by a Chinese bidder for many times more." http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/101112/world/eu_britain_valuable_vase Would you like to find a treasure like that among your old stuff?

I don't know how much my coffee table is worth. It's an antique. It's been around since way past i was born so i'm sure It's worth something. I was thinking about getting it appraised but hadn't gone through with it. Maybe when i have the time.

Only a good appraiser would know. Sometimes it's good to get different opinions as not all see the same value.

I wish I could have found something like that when I was younger. It's great that you have a greater possibility of getting a lot of money for an antique since it's now a worldwide market thanks in part to the Internet.

So true! So many possibilities these days. The vase was valuable to begin with but with the auction, it became super valuable.

Of course I would like to find a treasure in my old stuff, but it just is not very likely. I am happy for whoever this happens to, though.

So true, we can rejoice for the good fortune of other people. But one never knows what we ourselves might possess?

My husband and I have just been talking about this, how incredible!! It seems that the couple had to be taken out of the auction room in shock!! For anyone who watched the old British TV programme 'Only Fools and Horses' this reminded me of the last episode when Del Boy's watch went for millions!

One never knows what they may possess! Incredible isn't it? I wonder how many valuable treasures have been destroyed or thrown away because of ignorance?

Of course! Wouldn't everyone? I even look for antiques sometimes, hoping to find something valuable.

It shows we should not be so quick to throw stuff out. I hope you find something valuable in your antique hunting.

Oh my... she strikes gold in what is suppose to be an ordinary "old-aged" material. She was very lucky indeed in finding one item and even it is at its present state that the market value and appearance is still high. Really incredible. I do hope that I can be lucky as this lady was. We have some pieces of "old-aged" items stored and kept in our old ancestral house but I don't know who is taking care of it. I don't know if a valuable priced item as an antique is hidden somewhere there. But I do not bother to look around since I do seldom visit this house since I moved with my "own" family and was living in highly-dense urbanized city already. But oh boy... I do hope we find something like this and we can bring it an auction for a good high valued price so everyone in my family can be happy and share. But I think, this is somewhat next to impossible.

Imagine if she had just thrown it out! Check your stuff out carefully for who knows what may be there.

Woooww! I saw that vase on TV, a really beautiful one, but who has so much money that they can spend millions on a vase?? Maybe I find something among the clutter I have, before I get rid of it!!(not found any skeleton yet, by the way!!) I actually know of an auction site where anybody can get five free listings of the items they want to sell. They are now selling the worlds oldest Steinway piano, that is in perfect condition. So welcome to ask me if someone finds antiquities they want to sell!! And they can sell more modern things too, almost what they want!!

Remember old skeleton might also be valuable. Yes, who would have and want to spend so much money on an old vase? Value is in the eye of the beholder.

...Hi there, Well this is quite a great story. Makes you wonder if the sister even knew what the value of the vase was? A friend of a friend of mine was at a flea market once and took a liking to a ring that had some kind of foreign inscription in it. He bought it for five dollars or so. Put it away, later decided to get it appraised, it was a Louie the 16th or one of the Louie kings' ring worth quite a few millions of dollars. Sometimes you get lucky. Thanks for the atory. Take care.

Hi! I guess it confirms the saying that one person's junk is another person's treasure. That was quite a find!
