why would people exit at the entrance?

these last three nights i went to church for a mass. for the first two nights the order were good because there were specific signs - entrance and exit, which help in a good flow, but last night was so difficult. we all wondered why we couldn't easily get into the campus of the church when it was only the entrance. what would be the flaw? when i was nearer the entrance area i saw people going out leaving a 10% of the gate open for the people going inside. lots of people going in complained to the people going out saying, "don't you know how to read or you just dont understand what you read?"
