Ever wondered if you knew what you were signing up for, before becoming a nurse? Of course, the money was attractive! But is it really worth while? Imagine all the things you do as a nurse..you're not JUST a nurse; you're a: pharmacist (when you administer meds), doctor (when you discover signs and symptoms and report a possible diagnosis to the actual doctor), plumber (when you fix the patient's broken toilet), janitor (when you have to clean the unthinkable mess the patient just made), computer tech (when you communicate with the multidisciplinary team, electronically), advocate (when you represent your patient), educator (when you show your patient how to use a urinal...LOL), mother (when you're trying to calm your psychotic patient), administrator (when you're the charge nurse), singer (when you sing your pediatric patient to sleep), designer (when you design a care plan), lab tech (when you perform phlebotomy), last but not least, a nurse (when you multi-task all of the things mentioned above). Can you add to the list?
