Adices on throwing a Christmas Party

hello, mylotters! I really nees some advices. I'm going to throw a low-budget party in my university. It'll be organized by our english department, and it's the first time for us to work out all the details for a Christmas party. So, I want to know what kind of fun party do u always have? any theme or special activities? do parties just mean drinks, foods and mingle? im up to any suggestions! thx a lot!
