Teachers should be most and foremost a listener, my professor in my undergraduate studies told me this and now I couldn't agree more. It's rewarding when your students get what your teaching but there are always those who can't catch up with others, and in these instances a teacher should listen, not only to what the child is saying and not saying but also to his anxiety and what could motivate him to learn, for only now did I understand that listening isn't just about paying attention to sound waves but paying attention to all the wavelength's that is present. And it is more rewarding when you and your students struggle at the TLP then achieve an unexpected yet delightful result.
