Laptops now are like TV's many different brands out there now. I would go with the brands that have better reviews than others. You can research them to see others opinions. Laptops are basically the same only different manufacturers of the parts that make the laptop. Go with the research on the ones you have looked at, check where they were manufactured as well as the reviews of the products. I said I would never own a gateway years ago. The laptop I bought this past spring is a Gateway.. because I did the research and I like this one so far no problems. Also make sure you check the specs in what you want, that the laptop you choose has it or can be upgraded to that point. Not all are upgradable. hope you find the one for you

Yes there are some HP models that turned out to be horrible. I have one though that is over 4 years old and still working. I keep it for a back up. With the experience that I have had it is more of the parts they choose to use in the models they produce. Some parts are not as good as others.

who said hp is not good. In my opinion HP is equally as good as apple or DELL. I like the new HP Pavilion dm4 .You guys should chech out this laptop which is 14 inch ultra-portable with lots of features and lot of power. HP is always a great brand to go for.

I am a dealer for Acer back here in Malaysia.I would suggest Acer not because of the brand, but their laptops nowadays is quite tougher than before.I use Acer 4535,and it's been online 24/7,due to my business needs.Just don't go for pirated one or refurbished model. If you plan on buying Acer, have a survey first, take up the serial number of your desired model and check the warranty status on Acer website. If the serial number exists, then you have an original model at hand.In my country,Acer gives choices either to extend the warranty until 3 years maximum that costs extra few bucks.I think it's good since that you have all parts covered till 3 years time.If it is not good, why do Acer take the risks to give warranty like that.Dell is also fine where the performance equals to the appearance.Anyway, just don't go after compaq please, because there are lots of problems and hassles with their service as well as their units these days. Cheers.

If you are planning to buy a laptop, following are the choice according to me: 1. Acer: Please do not even think of it. 2. Dell: You can buy it but you may have problems if the product is out of warranty, they do even have their e-mail support for out of warranty products. 3. Lenovo: Until it was IBM, it was the best in the market, I have used IBM thinkpad R series for 3-4 years and it was awesome. However, Lenovo has its own problem and the speaker sound is not good. 4. Compaq: You can buy it if you do not want to invest more money and at the same time you want good configuration and better support even after the warranty expires. 5. HP : No doubt the best in the market now-a-days, its price is a bit higher as compared to Compaq and Dell but yes, the hardware durability and the support both are great. 6. Apple: There is no comparison of Mac with Windows. If you are involved in graphics work, you can invest more money and you are used of Mac OS, you should certainly go for Apple computer. However, you won't enjoy the free download stuff like Windows. 7. Sony and Toshiba: Sony laptops are for girls only, personally, I do not like Sony Viao. Toshiba, I used 4-5 years back, the quality was good, I do not know if you will get the good configuration at reasonable price and I am also not sure of the support that you will get after buying the product. If you are a student, try to buy a compaq laptop with pre-installed DOS. This will save your 3-4K (price that is charged for the pre-installed Windows OS in a laptop) and in India, you can easily install OS. All the best!!!
