Back in the 80s I was flicking through the channels on my TV and happened to tune into the "Lonesome Pine Specials" as Maura O'Connell was singing one of her songs. Her voice immediately caught my attention and I fell in love with her music. Now, Maura O'Connell is not mainstream by any means. She is Irish and sings folk music...although she may sing other songs, her style of singing them is always in the folk tradition. She has a beautiful voice and is a huge talent! No "autotuning" here! For those of you not familiar with the term "autotuning", basically this is a feature more and more artists are using these days. My daughter just introduced it to me recently. Apparently, it makes it possible for the tone-deaf to sing and sound on-key. You sing into the computer and it adjusts everything to put you on-tune. But that's for another discussion. I would like to know how many of you have heard of Maura O'Connell and are actually familiar with her. If you haven't heard of her, please check her out. She's got a beautiful voice...full-bodied, rich and comfortable. There aren't many clips of her on Youtube but there are a few. She has about a dozen or so albums available on CD. Check her out and let me know what you think.
