Cold hands and feet

Spain

Hi myLotters! I checked if there were any discussions about this but they were all quite old, so I though I'd start a new topic :) My hands and feet are almost always really cold, especially in winter (of course). I've heard this can be due to bad circulation, but I don't really know how it works, so to speak, or if there's anything I can do to make it better, because it can get pretty annoying sometimes (especially when going to bed... my feet feel horribly cold!) Thanks in advance!

we share the same problem! my dad even tell me every time he happens to brush his foot to mine. then my mom would advice me to wear socks to maintain the heat. honestly, I don't know the reason for this.

Yeah, warm socks help quite a lot indeed. I guess we just have poor circulation. Thanks for your reply and take care! :)

When it is cold, your body's natural instincts are to protect your vital organs such as your heart, liver etc. In order for this to happen, the blood tends to leave your hands and feet as they are "not as important". If you have poor circulation then it takes longer for the blood to circulate back into the extremities (hands and feet). I find that a hot water bottle can be useful to warm up my hands and feet.

That makes a lot of sense, thanks for the info! I guess I have poor circulation indeed, I've been thinking about getting one of those hot water bottles for a while, maybe I should just do it already :) Thanks for your post, and take care!

I have that too, although not in the summer at all and also not in bed because we have one sheet, a heavy cover and hte bed spread. But my hands are a little cold now. We have a house that was built in 1951 and the insulation isn't all that good. But neither me or my partner make a whole lot of money and can't afford to have the thermstat kept at 70 or even 65. So we opt to wear sweaters, be a little cold in the winter but not have $300 heating bills.

Well, once I've been in bed for a few minutes my feet get all warm, it's only in the beginning when they're still all cold that's annoying. I agree with you, sometimes it's better just to put on some warmer clothes instead of turning up the heat; it saves money and energy too. Thank you for your reply, take care!

I have raynauds disease that is made alot worse in the winter, this is due to having a circulation problem. My toes are all affected by raynauds disease and so far thankfully my fingers are not too bad.My feet and toes are always cold and blue.I can hardly bare to stand and i can not even wear shoes, so this is what is the result of circulation, also i have buergers disease that also shuts off vessels to the toes and feet.If i was you i would go to the drs just incase there is anything that they can do to help you.Try putting a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel in your bed where your feet go, so that way you get instant warmth to your feet or try bed socks.

I read a little about Raynaud's disease on Wikipedia after reading your post... poor you, that must be really annoying. Is there anything you can do about it? I've been thinking about getting one of those water bottles, I guess that would really make things better. Thanks for your post, take care!

Hi, Since it is winter time, maybe you can set on your heater inside the house and sametime put on glove and sock,so it will help to keep your hand and feet warm. ALso have a cup of hot tea or coffee,it definitely will keep your body warm.If you like to drink ginger water,it is good to have it as ginger water helps to keep body warm and feel comfortable. Give it a try and hope it works for you.

Our hands and feet are parts of the body that should not ne cold to us. it could be a sign of a circulation problem. Check it out with a physician to be on the safe side.

Yeah, I've heard it can be due to bad circulation, but I don't really know what I can do to improve that. Maybe I can ask my doctor indeed! Thanks for the reply and take care! :)

Coldness in the extremities has lots- and lots and lots- of potential causes, including diabetes, food allergies, being overweight, and anemia. Exercise encourages your body to send more blood to your extremities, and try cut down on caffeine if you consume it at all. Definitely get a physical, especially if you have or develop more serious symptoms, like vertigo upon standing, wounds or bruises that heal unusually slowly, or a blue tinge to your skin.

I had some blood tests done recently actually, as part of a check-up, and everything came out perfectly fine... so I believe it's just that I have poor circulation, but nothing else so to speak. The only thing is that I should definitely get more exercise, that I know :) Thanks for your reply, take care!
