I read a news article at inquirer.net that Santa is stealing the true spirit of christmas. See the link http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/breakingnews/nation/view/20101204-306915/Philippine-bishop-accuses-Santa-of-stealing-Christmas During these days, christmas is more associated to giving gifts and Santa Claus, and its true that most people tend to forget the true essence of the celebration of the birth of Christ. Though the situation is somewhat a reality, this church people should not blame a fictitious character, santa claus. I think its their fault, they are ineffective in their way to remind the people that christmas is the birth of Christ.

I believe that the bishop should look into the deplorable conditions of the poor people living in squatters, and see that it is the extreme corruption and poverty that is stealing Christmas, not Santa Claus. This bishop will eat more than 3 times come Christmas day, while many of the poor will just be dreaming about delicious foods while making do with instant noodles, salt and NFA rice. Santa gives hope to the poor, especially to the children. He is their idea of somebody generous...So why hate him? If you are so jealous of Santa, why not dress up like a super-bishop and distribute some of the hidden Church wealth to the poor?

Hello Strawberry, I think it's not the Church. It's just another OLD Man from our beloved Catholic religion who still tries to make the Religion dominant by any means. well, Christianity and CHrist is indeed dominant. Question is? What the HELL is his problem? We also recognized Jesus CHrist as Son of GOD and Filipinos going to Night Mass every December and sharing gifts to each other.or give gifts or cash to charity. I think the FIlipino people aren't dumb enough to replace ONe thing here, they should blame the Media or Business for using Santa as commercial. better yet Church should compete and not complain

Well since they can no longer hold rallies against the Reproductive Health Bill (RH Bill) since the Pope acknowledged the use of rubber and slammed the door on their faces, they would have to find a way to get attention. It's sad what the catholic church in the Philippines has becomes. They should stick to issues involving their flock and stop going to the media. they should start evangelization again, and not just wait for people to drop by their churches. It's sad that santa seems more popular than Jesus on Christmas season, but its not santa's fault its the fault of capitalists and the churches neglect of its duties.

Santa is there, it's just an icon. BUt Christ will always be with us. So the teaching of true essence of Christmas must start from the family. It is how parents introduce to their child what is Christmas and why celebrate Christmas.

OMG, here they go again, when will they stop all the "papansin" on media( what people do to get attention if they lack one)and the grandstanding, and rediculous comments that causes more divisiveness than unity,GIVE US A BREAK, IT'S CHRISTMAS SEASON!!! Santa is just a tradition that we all learned from our grand fathers, and our kids love it, and yes why don't they just leave people alone to celebrate Christmas the way they want to celebrate it as long as they don't do anything illegal. If it's a symbol of consumerism then so be it ,are they the one's who will give us the money to spend this season? All of us here in Mylot worked hard to earn that money. I mean no disrespect for the Catholic Church, but is'nt consumerism good especially after the crisis to keep cash flowing and circulating again and it will favor not just the country but the whole world as well? Have they really consulted all the people if it's Santa that's in their hearts or Christ, of course not. My family love Santa especially the kid on Chistmas, but we love the Lord Jesus Christ whole year round,Christmas or no Christmas. So I think that statement is

And Santa Claus has been stolen from the Dutchies. Let people celebrate Christmas the way they want to celebrate it. I don't need anybody to shove down my throat the way they believe Christmas should be celebrated. Oh wait, I don't even celebrate Christmas.
