If God forgives me every time I ask, why do I still feel guilty?

I saved four years ago, and I tried to live a Christian life. I made lots of mistakes, but every time I ask God to forgive. And then I'm happy again because I know God has forgiven. But lately I seem to constantly feel guilty for things I do. I even started feeling guilty about things that I'm not sure I have done. I have asked God to forgive me if I had made a mistake, but I still feel guilty. I want the excitement back that I first experienced when I became a Christian. Why do I feel guilty?

God is merciful and just. People regard God as only merciful and they forget that God is also just. If we ask for forgiveness we should really mean it. Do penance and promise not to do it again.

dont feel guilty all the time^^ we all make mistakes and god knows if we regret or not. he knows that so you dont need to feel so bad with yourself. god wants us to be happy so you should be happy instead of being so stressed and always saying sorry for your mistakes. everyone does wrong things sometimes and we all are forgiven if really regret it so dont worry anymore^^ im sure that god is happy bcs you regret your mistakes and now just relax and be happy^^

I am a Christian, but I myself admits to be a sinner. God always forgives and no doubt that He really is. That's when the guilt comes in. You have doubts and lacks faith. Hence, it is instilled in your mind that He always forgives, as a consequence the repentance is not genuine. If you ask for forgiveness, you have to take it wholeheartedly and not merely asking it. God forgives you, but you do not do your part. That is our common mistake and a form of our lack of faith to Him.

The reason you felt good when you asked god for forgiveness is because you already forgave yourself whether you ask god for forgiveness or not.

coz mistakes are something that haunts our entire lifetime..if you want to free yourself from the guilt god can't do anything its upon you,you have to rectify your own mistakes..if you can't do that it will always haunt you..

Sometimes this happens because God wants to test our faith. It might be good for you if you helped in any vollunteer work or in a charity. It often makes the people who participate feel much better. There is also the option of maybe going on a two day religious trip at a monastery or somewhere like that. Hope i've helped! :-)

Because maybe god doesn't exist and you have to forgive yourself.

When God forgives you, you just accept it. If you feel guilty about the forgiveness, then maybe you have something yet that needs to be forgiven.

Oh wow I'm glad I ain't the only Christian who feels that way :-p Oftentimes I'm afraid to admit that because of fear of judgment from other people. Well, I was talking to a family friend a few days ago with the exact same issue, and she told me about forgiving myself. A lot of us are totally hard on ourselves and we tend to dwell on stuff when in reality there's nothing we can do about the past so the only thing we can do is move on. I'm really learning how to change my mindset on this, and it's not easy at all, trust me. But at least knowing that the only thing we can do is move on, and learn from our mistakes helps me. (for me it's especially hard because I suffer from depression/anxiety disorder) Another thing about the mistakes in our pasts is being able to relate to others who went through the same thing you did, or, even currently facing the same struggle. This way, you can be there as a support for the person and help them go through with this. So yeah, look at them as good "life lessons" that can be used to help others. I really hope this helped you, because the conversation with my friend really helped me put things into perspective.

We must seek forgiveness only if we are sure that we would not repeat the same mistake again. Committing the same mistake over and again makes us feel guilty.

Hello gengeni. God bless you and your family. Maybe you should ask your self also if you have forgiven your self. Sometimes, the guilt remains because we keep looking back on the mistakes we've done in the past. Try to move on and focus on the fact that God has forgiven you. If you feel guilty on things that you have not done, try looking at it in different angle, see the messages and lessons behind these things. In this way you will be looking things in a positive and constructive way.
