Christmas Caroling too early?

Hi fellow mylotters, just asking a question... Is it too early to start Christmas caroling in the Philippines? I already saw some kids going from one house to another to sing Christmas songs. I also think that kids today lost the essence of caroling. Isn't it that caroling should be enjoyable and not for getting money?

Yeah, I think it's too early for caroling. Children are not putting heart and passion in caroling. All they do is to make noise and wait for the given money. Besides they're not enjoying and don't have the essence of caroling.

I agree that Christmas caroling is a bit early in our area. There were at least different groups sinnging in the late afternoon to a little bit of late evening. I suppose that some people take abuse of our Christmas tradition of having the longest Christmas time span and having people sing Christmas songs at out doors. Frankly, I have nothing against caroling as long as it doesn't bother other people and people actually appreciate the songs.. However, the caroling in my evolved opinion into a genuine greeting to a nuisance during the recent Christmases. I especially don't like it when children sing carols when I'm traveling (especially if I'm in the jeep).

Actually, I haven't heard any kids singing outside of our house. Moreover, I haven't heard my brother shout, "patawad" as soon as he hears a group of kids coming near our gate. But then again, I always get home at around 10PM or later because of the traffic. Maybe tomorrow when I'm home during decent caroling hours, I'd get to see if there are kids roaming around our village already. Yeah, kids always look forward to caroling because of extra money. I know I did, when I was a kid. But I did enjoy it too. I remember my friends dragging me to the house of the guy who has a crush on me. Every night, we would go there and they would make me stand in front of the group so we'd get big bucks. Of course, we were happy if we received 20 pesos back then. That was fun. Probably the most memorable caroling experience for me though was when I saved up all of my caroling money the gave it to church. That was the first time I gave an envelope to the "padasal" and heard my name when they call for blessings. I think I was about 8 years old at the time.

DEFINITELY! it really annoys me especially that these people do not really put love, passion, or anything essential while doing it. it is like a half level more than begging alms. well, of course not all. but most are.

I think it is still too early, I remember when I was a kid, those children would start to carol in our house after the Misa de gallo or simbang gabi would start. Also one of my indication that Christmas is already here is when we already had our Christmas party in school. We can't blame them, it's sign of hard times besides there were not that much street children then , and you are right it's a little bit becoming more of begging now than fun.
