An out-of-town guest brought me the most delicious pears I have ever tasted--Asian pears. I had never had them before, but now I am very interested in buying some! But I am not sure how to pick out the best ones. Should they be hard or soft, (or somewhere in the middle), what color should the skin be, are the larger better-tasting than the smaller ones, or vice versa. Any advice/tips on how to select the best Asian pears would be most appreciated!

Asian pears - Asian pears, source from Korea, China, Taiwan and some of the place which have winter.
There are many type of Asian pears, and the taste are also different. Some Asian pears are light brown in color and some are with light yellow in color. The light yellow one should be sweeter and nicer. When you choose, you should choose those are hard one, the soft one should be too ripe and will not be nice to eat. You can see the photo attached, there are 2 types of Asian pears in the photo.

Hhmm. . .the ones we had were sort of tan--would that be the one you are calling light brown (to the left in the picture?). if the yellow ones are even tastier, I'll definitely have to try those, too! Thanks for the tips!
