The ever-evolving annoyance of ads on the internet

Advertising makes the world go 'round but that fact doesn't make the day-to-day experience with ads on the internet any easier to deal with. I especially hate the ones that start talking at you the moment a page loads. It's beyond invasive. "Congratulations! You've just won an iPod Nano!" I understand why we have ads but do they have to be so blasted annoying and in your face?
