Everyone know about Christmas. Many know about christmas traditions - Santa-Claus, christmass tree, gifts etc. But not everybody know that first Christmas tree as part of Christmas celebration happened in Riga, Latvia 5 centuries ago (in 16.century). I am proud of this fact and i think this is maybe the most wide spread tradition which started here in my country. Christmass is coming and after 10 days i will go to wood to find christmas tree for my family too. Happy Christmas everyone and dont forget to find beautiful christmas tree for your house.

I have had a Christmas tree each year since I was born, but nobody told me about the origin of this tradition. Thank you for sharing this, I'm sure you know more about this subject like, for example, why did they choose a fir tree for that or what did they use to decorate the first Christmas tree. We can't go to the woods to choose a Christmas tree, because it's forbiden to cut any tree from the wild without permission. We only buy our Christmas tree from the market and those are fir trees grown into nurseries.

We in here are forbiden to cut fir trees too, but there is a law that one citizen of latvia can go to wood that belongs to our government and cut one tree for his family. We have our own woods here (belongs to my wife family) so we can cut them as many as we want to, but still the hardest thing is to find the most beautiful tree in all woods!

Then you must go to the christmas tree market very early and buy the most beautiful tree first!

We have our own woods, too, but even so, if we cut one tree without permission we must pay a fine, and the fine means much more money than buying a fir tree from the market. I can imagine how difficult it is to find the most beautiful tree in all the wood, but it is difficult to choose a beautiful tree even when you choose it at the market.
