Is chickory which really makes coffee tastier and rich in aroma

Most of the coffee manufacturers adds a shrub called chickory along with coffee to make it much more aromatic.But one thing which makes confused is what makes coffee good to taste whether it is natural coffee or the chickory which is blended with it.
