cable providers

United States

In the US, we have a limited choice of cable TV providers. I currently subscribe to Comcast, but I wish there was more competition around here. Comcast provides decent service, but they are pretty expensive. I checked out Dish Network, but was told that due to the surrounding trees, their service would not be possible. So that leaves me with only 1 choice, Comcast or no cable service. It seems to me that cable TV providers are allowed to have near monopolies in certain areas, and the result is an inflated price. It is my understanding that that's not the way it's supposed to work in a capitalist society. Okay, that is my rant for today. Please feel free to comment and disagree...

In my area it's all a monopoly, one cable company to choose from or a dish, that's it. I just moved so I had to switch providers because the company I'd previously been with only goes to two doors up from me and about four miles in the opposite direction. There are several different companies in my area, Comcast, Blue Ridge, MetroCast and Service Electric but nobody gets a choice, whichever company services your town or community is what you're stuck with. They more or less know they have us, the consumers, where they want us. Annie
