i am noticing a trend lately....there seems to be an excessive amount of first person shooter games available these days. i know that the big name ones are mainly the call of duty and halo series. i can accept that. but what i can't really accept is the numerous games out there that are almost identical to these series. it is just ridiculous to me. they keep remaking the same game...can anybody tell me why there are so many similar games like this out there? what's the big deal? i have played both of the main series and some of the "knock-offs" but to be completely honest, i don't even like the big name ones that much

First person shooter games are vey popular right now, because of Infinity Ward. They made Call of Duty 4 and that was a big hit, now they made Call of Duty 6 and that was a big hit to. Other games like Call of Duty mostly suck i think. They just try to steal Call of Duty. (and Treyarch sucks)

lol...that is funny that you say treyarch sucks because that is not the first time i have heard that. i actually hear that alot. but i agree. i have played the call of duty games made by treyarch and they really are some garbage compared to the other games in the series made by infinity ward. the gameplay is so awkward and the stories aren't as good...i still dont know why the call of duty team paired up with them..

Reason why there is so many First Person Shooter games is cause it's popular right now. It helps the video game companies make money since a lot of gamers are getting these type of games to play online mostly. But I do agree it's the same thing over and over again. It's just a phase for now.

I don't think it will ever go away! It's what people want. People want to feel that they are right in the action, not watching someone else on the action. Ps3 is the best!

I played battlefield 2, and it's fun than cod or because we can ride the vehicles, tanks, planes, etc. it will be more fun if you play online or LAN.

I think that FPS games are the new consoles bread and butter, they don't have to focus on having a good story because everyone buys the games for multiplayer, then you get on, and everyone's filled up all the places to play. If I'm going to get an FPS it will probalbly be Modern Warfare 2, and that'd probably be the only thing I'd get.

yeah i noticed that. they never seem to have good stories anymore. they only focus on the online gameplay these days but raise the price of the game

Well they may be similar but they are all different in some form. If something is popular, everyone will try to jump in and make some money off of it. Everyone wants to play first person shooters, so companies will make first person shooters. It isn't a big deal, its just how the world works. Why do you think that there are so many companies that make cell phones, so many companies that make cars, so many companies that make similar products?

well you have got a poin there, but i was just sayin what i noticed. it is true that just about every company either is making something that is being competed with or making something to compete with something else. but i have just noticed so many just like out of nowhere just like all the dance games, and the motion sensor game systems, etc. i kinda just wish people would be more original though.

I have never seen 2 games that were identical. Every time a game has a sequel it has updated and upgraded features. Most take into account the things that people liked and the things that people didn't like. It makes sense to leave some features that fans of the game enjoy to keep them coming back to their franchise, also it is logical for other developers to try to implement similar ideas to pull in gamers that might normally not be interested. Check out killzone 3 it is gonna be awesome!

hm...well that is just your opinion...i think they are way too similar. it's not like i am just saying this and have never played them. i have played several of them (my husband owns like every first person shooter game). i have seen him play or actually played the vast majority of these games (such as halo, battlefield, call of duty and many more). the first person shooter games are worse than the guitar games with their remakes...it's so annoying

It's not "just" my opinion. If you read what I wrote then you would know it is based on facts and experience not "just" my feelings. Maybe if "you" played them you wouldn't hate them. You clearly don't play them if you are trying to say they are worse then the guitar games which have nothing new added to them ever. Different songs don't make it a different game.

Well, it's probably because First Person Shooter (FPS) games are selling like hot pancakes. Call of Duty: Black Ops has broken total sales of its predecessors and a new Modern Warfare 3 is slated to release sometime late this year. I can't blame the game producers/publishers of FPS games if they continue to release these kind of games because it is giving them money. Besides, gamers are buying/demanding for more FPS games so developers just give the fans what they want. :)
