If you need one more sweet story for this season, go here [ http://www.pawnation.com/2010/12/23/homeless-injured-dog-and-supermom-takes-care-of-her-litter-an/ ] & view the video of a very special mom & her little charges. I know you'll have a tear in your eye at the end, but it'll be a tear of happiness. It involves love, courage, dedication & adoption of a not-so-common kind, & those sorts of people who embody the spirit of Christmas, in any season, who helped facilitate this event. Go see! well, dogs, or cats, will often take in orphans, but generally when someone actually introduces them, not on their own so often Jaccob is a good bit older than the puppies, I'm wondering if she didn't adopt him before the puppies came along.

This really isn't as unusual as it sounds...in Alaska and Canada these sorts of adoptions happen a lot.

Great story, Maggie. You always find the best stories. Makes me wonder if there's anything else you have to do with your time? LOL

I have to say...we always raised our kittens with our dogs. Made both more even tempered.

Oh, I got this one through "FreeKibble.com" which often has great stories, & which gives you daily questions about cats & dogs. When you answer them, even if you get the answer wrong, animals get free food! Great site! Only took me a minute to find the story, via their direct link. And, no, I don't have much to do, plus I'm behind on several tasks. Haven't been here much this month, though! Nice to see you! Merry Christmas! (5th day--it's not over 'til the 5th of January, remember! ) Maggiepie "The greatness of a nation & its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I've known at least a few cat-dog friends. My favorite was Roksha, a black & tan German Shepherd & her unnamed brindle kitten pal. They would curl up & sleep in Roksha's big doghouse, & you couldn't tell where the kitten & dog began or ended, their colors were so similar! It was a charming sight. Yeah. I love sweet animals, too. But other "mismatched" species do this besides dogs & cats from time to time. I've seen cat & bunny pairing, dog & duck, bird & cat, horse & cat--even cat & rat! Lily: Thanks! So glad you enjoyed it as much as I! And yes, maybe Daddy Dawg wasn't approved by the owners of the poor sweet mom? I won't go into detail; this is too sweet a story to spoil with ugly stories. You can always share such stories with me, btw--I love them, too! Oh my that was a very touching story. Reading it alone makes my heart melts. I know that any dog mother will nurse her pups even if she is injured. Who do this to her is heartless animal. Thank God that she is safe now, I don't want to hear any bad things happened to animals. I love them.

Merry Christmas & happy new year to you, Auntie! And don't forget, Christmas isn't over; it's a 12 day season! Plus, I'm Eastern Orthodox Catholic, which uses an older calendar, so our Christmas is just starting January the 6th (Christmas Eve)! Confused? That makes you normal! LOL! I haven't been on a huge amount lately, it's true. I've just had other things on my mind. You know, "Real Life"..."takin' care of bidness, "etc. See ya next year! What a sweet story. This proves that love is universal --- it's something innate and something all feeling beings have. If everyone loved without regard to kind, race or belief, what a wonderful place this world would be!

I pretty much agree with you, though I must point out that it's mostly avian & mammalian species which have this trait. Fish & every other watery environmental inhabitant don't, barring mammalian sea & river creatures such as whales & otters, beavers & so on, don't, nor do lizards & snakes. These just reproduce & leave their offspring to the Fates. But your point is a great one; more love, please!
