Hi Friends.. My husband is running a catering business and we need Provision, spices and vegetables and fruits in huge amount.. Since rates are rising for all things we have planned like we will purchase spices and few provisions directly from the farmers.. so it will be helpful for them to get good rate and it will be useful for us as well because they give some concision in rate.. so the mediators cannot take the advantage and take more commission.. So what do you think about this.. we feel its mutual benifit for both farmer and us.. Please provide your suggestions views..

Hi dear, I think it is an excellent idea and both of you will get some benefits. The farmers are getting very cheap price for their products but when we go for buying the same from the market the price is very high, just imagine, lion share of the profit is earning by the mediators only. It is indeed a sad situation when the hardworking farmers are struggling to meet their both ends. So I heartily welcome to your decision and I hope your business will get more profit in the coming year. Wish you a very Happy and Prosperous New Year to you and your family.

Dear friend, I do not feel any thing weak in that idea, if those deals are well going. May be I wished if there is space and land one could have their own cultivation.Giving the transportation charges to the workers, if possible. Moreover if you are good managers and good in finance, I hope everything will soon come better than before. Wish you all the great great success......

Buying directly from the source is always better if you can and if their a good source. I'd look around in your area and try to get as much of your supplies as possible from local merchants, it'll be fresher, cheaper and you'll be supporting local merchants and growers. It is a wonderful idea chaitra, that helps keep the money circulating within your community area as well. By helping out local growers, you are helping your own economy grow. You also are providing a fresher product to your customers, this will give them a great impression when you tell them so.

I do find your idea a good one. It is a win-win solution to a problem. You and the farmer are helping each other. Cutting on the middle man is a very good solution since there will be less to pay and at the same time having the produce delivered to you fresh will also produce a better cooked meal.

If you have a Sams club or Wall Mart you should check them out. Sam club deals with people and people who have a business . You can bye thing in large amounts and sometimes pay less.

chaitra001, In the first place, I am sure you are not getting your supplies from retailers (I hope) but WHOLESALERS. I know your logic here but it is not practical at all when it comes to quality control. Running your business here for one does not include sourcing for farmers and checking their produce every now and then. Also, some things are seasonal and are not produced year round, as such you may need to buy a year round supply which means that you will need for space for storage to the effect of a warehouse. I believe you would realize that all of the above includes cost and may escalate it which at the end of the day become more costly than what you are doing now. So, I hope you will realize by now you will realize the importance of wholesalers for your supplies. A good wholesaler would ensure quality control on their goods and customers like you will have that assurance at the end of the day. The price may represent a fraction but I just have to say that it will be worth more than doing everything yourself. And, the time you saved can be best spent on ensuring and developing more business for your company. All the best and happy new year.

Hi skysuccess.. I dont think there is a real need for the wholesalers.. because we have tested the quality very well and well farmers know better than others how to store the crops for long time.. and since what we purchase will lost only one or two months we always check quality and buy freshly.. And also we are buying spices which can be kept for long time even without preservatives.. SO I think we will succeed and it will benifit both us as well farmers.. Thanks for sharing your views.. Happy New Year.. Happy Mylotting..

It is a great idea to cut off the middleman. However, take into consideration the cost of actually going directly to the farmers, if all costs computed would result in a lower amount that would be the right choice. If it would cost more, this usually happens when you don't have a high usage which would make it cheaper to buy from the middlemen. So whatever help you save that would be the right choice!

It is a good idea to go to the farmers directly. This will work out temporarily only. You may very well know, every profession, trade or the other is pestered with union activities. It is quite natural, in the presence of a union for anything, matters will be resolved through the union only. Next is the Governmental interferrance, all sorts of red tapism. Even if you want to help the poor souls by directly buying from them, what surity they will not demand a vibrating market price for their products. Not to mention, the self transportation costs, the shelf life of vegetables etc to be considered. I would suggest you go to a wholesale dealer for this purpose.

I totally agree with you that this is a good idea and yes there will be mutual benefits to both parties. It is indeed a good thing to do to buy directly from the farmers and they too earn directly from you. In this case you can get it at a reasonable price and they too can earn from that without a big cut of percentage from middle man. Good luck to you and your husband's business.

Thats a great idea.. Go for it. It will be beneficial for both you and farmers. I am not having experience in this field. But if you can save something by purchasing directly from framers then surely you should go for that. Every savings count.

This is a very good idea. Here in the states there is a big push to "buy local" This cuts out the middleman, cuts out shipping costs and lets you get to know the person who actually grew the food. Once you know the producers personally you can get them to grow specialty crops just for you that you can'y get anywhere else. Then thats a selling point for you.
