Why Am I Not Surprised About This?

How I despair of takeovers, I really do. Never liked them and they ALWAYS involve job losses. The fact that Fry's Chocolate Cream was made in England for years and years makes no difference. Production is being moved to Poland, despite Kraft saying the 400 jobs would be safe at Cadbury. I know for a fact that Polish-made chocolate is inferior but I don't buy Cadbury products anyway because I knew what was coming, therefore I have boycotted their products. There is still a major Cadbury factory in Birmingham but I would be looking for another job if I was working there. No Cadbury job is safe in Kraft's hands. Check out how many miles the choc bars have to travel from Poland to get back to the UK. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2011/01/03/cadbury-closes-british-factory-to-move-production-to-poland-115875-22822483/

It's costing more to import the chocolate back here so that cancels out any gains in moving production abroad. It's madness!

They must be cutting costs somewhere though, or why do it?

All we hear is that it is cheaper to make things abroad. No-one ever elaborates on this but if I was in a Union I'd want to know why and how it is cheaper to make stuff abroad. I remember there was a big stink over HP Sauce being made over in Holland, even though it has the Queen's crest on the bottle "By Royal Appointment." Absolutely nothing is sacred. We do make things like cars but for other companies, not our own. Ironically, British car workers are now classed as the best in the world. It's a pity we don't make British cars then. The companies are all defunct or have been taken over by larger manufacturers from abroad.

not only does this happen in England, it happens here in Canada as well. Sadly, not only has our great department store Eatons gone bellyup and bought by Sears US, we have (gasp) sold our oldest department store (the Hudson) Bay to american hands, nothing in Canada is sacred anymore.

Hi guys! It is so sad what is happening to brands we have all grown up with. Governments don't seem that concerned about it either. I remember politicians wanting assurances that Kraft weren't going to close any factories in the UK but they have an no-one from the Government has made a comment about it, as far as I know. How times have changed.

Unfortunately nothing much is sacred anywhere any more :( Many of our happiest childhood and teenage memories are just that because the stores or companies that made things have changed hands and no longer keep to the same standards. I hardly recognise the place I grew up in any more so much has changed in the High street...
