When to draw a line in a friendship?

I find it very difficult in fact very near impossible to say no to a friend. And sometimes i go through so much anguish which i could avoid by simply saying no but then thinking of the disappointment that the person might experience!! Isn't there some magical trick or anything which can make the whole process less worrisome!!
