The “hi buddy” guy

My neighbor’s son has just arrived from California, after his higher studies. Now he is trying for a job in our local place. The first day when the neighbor introduced his son, he greeted me with a “hi buddy”, then he introduced to my father there also came a greeting with “hi buddy”. Whenever he sees me he starts with his “hi buddy” greeting. Next day morning while jogging I saw him there also came a greeting starting with “hi buddy”. Later, when I talked with others in my area they all have to focus the greeting of our new friend “hi buddy”. Now people in our locale have named him “hi buddy”. But to me he is a very funny guy who wants to be friendly with everyone, may be that is his style of greeting. May be at least he is greeting others showing his concern to others. Anyhow recently I told him that he is named as “hi buddy”, he laughed and enjoyed it.

I have heard that greeting before here. The word buddy is a slang term for friend here. It is used in a few different ways..lol...like...me and my buddy are going to the store...or..oh yes..I know him..he is a buddy of mine. I bet he is just used to the greeting where he went to school. Sounds like he is a nice person.

Well, if it is his way getting friendly to others than it's okay. I just hope he greet elders more properly. Ive a friend that after two weeks training in Australia, went back home and started to say: yep, nope and that's showing off definitely!

Hi Sham, Ha ha people in our state never behind to put a nick name. I think they are very quick on this habit. The ‘boy’ must be developed this habit from where he grown up. He is not fully aware about the habits of people in Kerala, anyway he knows about his nick name and he enjoyed the same. He must be a funny guy and who won’t hurt easily, I think.

I´m sure he wants to be friendly but has trouble learning all the new names all at once. He seems nice if he laughed at the nickname you gave him. Funny though that he doesn´t have a different greeting for two generations (your father´s and yours). Happy posting, buddy

Maybe it's hard to remember everyones name so its easier to say hi buddy. It's hard trying to fit into a new neighborhood.
